Thoughts on the new Tudor BB monochrome

It is how thin the bezel is compared to sub that helps it stand alone as a smooth package. Look forward to the next evolution.

Speaking of gilt vs. no gilt. More than 10 years ago I popped into a European AD to see what they had. I chatted with the Rolex manager who had been in his position for many years. I saw a watch poking out from under his suit coat and asked him what it was. He showed me a beautiful black dial 58, but something didn't look right. IT HAD NO GILT. I asked him about it and he told me that Rolex had been playing around with what to make and they had made this watch. (I didn't ask if it they made one or a dozen.) And Rolex gifted the watch to him based on whatever relationships he had.

I love it personally. I believe Tudor belongs in everyone's collection. I have never been a fan of gilt so I went with the BB41 (non-diver). If I was in the market for another Tudor I would go with this on the five link.

I really, really like the new monochrome BB.

The case architecture of the latest iteration corrected what I found to be shortcomings with the 79220r, 79220n, and BB GMT models I owned but parted with.

It’s ~13.5 thick, but the caseback protrudes a little bit. For whatever reason, that works for me - probably the same reason I like my SD 16600 and BB Pro. They all sit comfortably on my wrist.

Add the incredibly comfortable 5-link bracelet that tapers to 16mm at the T-fit clasp, updates to bezel, metas cert, etc, and I think it’s a super choice. If I happened to be looking for a new diver, the monochrome one would be my choice.

Wait what? The 58 did not come out until 2018. How could you have seen it over a decade ago let alone known it well enough to think it didn't look right?

Are you sure you didn't see the no-gilt Black Bay that came out in 2014, perhaps a bit before it came out publicly? That would have looked different from the gilt Black Bay that was already out at the time.

I like it, particularly on that bracelet, and if I didn´t already have an old 14060 Submariner I´d definitely be interested in buying it.

It looks nice - But I struggle to see why I’d pick it over a submariner other than price (or not wanting to wear a Rolex).

I could see it being a pool/ beach watch on a rubber strap but, while it’s a lot cheaper than a sub, it’s hardly a “cheap” watch. And it looks so much like a sub, I don’t really buy the “under the radar” suggestion.

I had a chance to check this out last week and, while not for me, I was very impressed with the degree to which Tudor co tinies to refine their watches in quality and design.

The case and dial are great. Classy but not blingy. I am never a jubilee fan but the clasp is very nice. I would not consider any riveted bracelet. Something about them just does not ring my bell.

I am still on the fence on the aluminum bezel insert. Granted they are cheap to replace but how long will it take and does it have to be sent to the service center???

The movement in this piece is the main attraction. Tudor is getting dangerously close to being the wiser choice for those of us who buy a watch for its technical attributes. My non METAS 5602 is far and away my best performing movement.

I prefer the case style of the older subs Vs the new bulky case but I don't want a vintage watch = Tudor for me.

Also love the fact there are no crown guards.

Husband really likes his a lot. Oyster bracelet. I noticed he is wearing more and more.

Totally agree on the rubber. If a similar strap is good enough for a Daytona, why not?

I saw one of these in the flesh for the first time today. I went into an AD in London to discuss another watch and he offered me one of these. I told him that I wasn’t interested as my last purchase was a Tudor so I’m looking for something different for my next watch, but he asked if I wanted to try it on anyway…. So I did.

I was impressed… really impressed. It’s a beautifully proportioned watch and looks far better in the flesh. The jubilee bracelet really suits it and the total package is hard to believe for the price point. Given that it’s also got an in-house Metas movement, and it’s selling in the UK for less than £4k, it is a beast of a watch for that price.

If I was looking for another Tudor then I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Tudor have been absolutely nailing their new releases recently and this is just another example of them doing a brilliant job.

Same here, what this seems to have over the 14060 for me is slightly bigger but not as big or blingy as current subs, and has domed AR coated crystal and easily adjustable clasp the 14060 doesn’t have

In comparing Tudor monochrome with oyster bracelet and new LV Sub that I have in front of me. The crown is smoother and easier to operate than the sub, but this could be from not having the date position, as wonderful as sub crowns are to operate the Tudors seems nicer. The sub appears slightly larger due to the ceramic bezel. The 120 clicks is nicer than the 60 of the Tudor. Tudor case is thicker but not too thick. The bracelet especially the clasp of the sub is far superior. Not close. To me the T fit clasp adjustment is over rated. It seems cheap.

The LV sub runs -1.5 per day. The metas Tudor runs +3. I would rather plus 3 than minus 1.5, but that’s me. For some reason Rolex’s seem to run in the minus, for me.

Over all the Tudor is more comfortable. Probably because of the smaller clasp. GS gets a bad rap because of their “cheap” clasps. But I prefer wearing a GS as they are more comfortable than a Rolex sports watch.

As far as your 14060. I think you would find the oyster bracelet on the Tudor at least as good but probably better. I would. And I think you would find this Tudor a better watch. I have handled the 14060 but am going by memory. I don’t have one in front of me. I just recall the bracelet and clasp system as being below par as compared to newer subs.

The lume is much better on the Tudor.

Too me the Tudor looks much better on the oyster than the rubber or jubilee. They don’t look right to me on the other two. But looks are subjective.

does it ever conform to the shape of your wrist? I guess I have a wide, flat wrist. Worst fitting/ most uncomfy rubber I've got. Which is a bummer, because I love the design. Gave my old black one a shot over a few days during summers when working events outside, and just couldn't do it. Blue one has stayed in the box.

On the plus side, it forced me to wear the bracelet, and has converted me to a bracelet fan.

It conforms nicely to my 7.25" wrist. Comfort is certainly subjective but I find it supple and very forgiving.
