After 4 Months...

I tend to like newness in the things I own. Spending nearly £6K on a watch, I'd rather not beat it up

They're tough alright. Last month I had a fall onto some rocks while trying to get to the bottom of a waterfall in Canada. This clasp had a direct impact as I broke my fall. The pic(take on my phone) doesn't show that it sustained only minor scratches along the raised centre edge. I came out worse off though with a cut to my hand, which would've been worse if it were not for my trusty GMTII-C, and a cracked rib. I'm usually obsessed with little scratches and normally polish them out myself, however these new ones I will leave until the next service.

Guilty!!! I do this.

I work with some high temperature machinery and we use a 3M tape that is totally clear and has good durability, but will peel off easily if you want.

My best advice is this.... there are places that apply "clear bra" to cars. Its a clear film that people install on nice cars to guard from stone chips. It is guaranteed to last for 5 years and not yellow, yet it will peel off without damaging car paint. I had a car done and I asked the guy for some scraps. He gave me a bunch of this tape.

I put it on the flat part of the claps and it is totally invisible. Takes 2 minutes to install and keeps the clasp looking new for years. It can even be installed on the front face of some watches to protect the crystal and bezel. I only tried it once and it works ok. You can barely see it and the tape wraps around contours nicely. On the car they heat it up to wrap around curves but I did not do that to my watches.

I don't get crazy if I get a swirl, but after 5-10 years of desk diving and polishing I have seen some pretty thin clasps.

Hey why not take a minute and protect it?

I use this watch daily for everything, pretty much. Every other month or so I rebrush the clasp and bracelet, as well as put it in the ultrasonic. Comes out looking like new.

My motto:

Wear it
Enjoy it
Don't worry about scuffs etc
When it's serviced it will come back like new

Then can start obsessing all over again

Lololol

Cheers!!

I have a couple small scratches on the clasp of my DJ, it doesnt bother me. When it gets really bad I will have it buffed back to original satin finish. The band doesnt show scratches since its a jubilee, and I am pretty careful with my arm. If something happens oh well thats life.

I am one of those odd people who wear the watch on the right and I am right handed so my ExII was getting scuffed on day one... kinda looks okay, it took a week to get over it and carry on, it is an 'explorer' after all.. my 5513 is on a NATO so no worries there
