Need Opinions - Possible purchase - Panda Daytona

OK Guys (and ladies) I could really like to have honest opinions.

I have an opportunity to purchase a late sixties Panda Daytona. Pics attached. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics.

Anyway, it has been serviced and has an older steel bracelet. I can buy it for roughly the same amount as a new rosegold Daytona, $28K.

I was originally looking for a modern SS Daytona, but now I am conflicted.

If the difference in money was out of the picture, which one would you choose?

Thanks for any and all answers.

Looks like a 6263, but I think at least the dial is later then late sixties.....IŽd say from 1974-ish and forward? What serial # is stamped between the lugs?

I have a 6265 and i would go vintage over modern any day of the week

I'd prefer vintage but I would do a lot of DD and I'd have some look at the watch who knows his stuff. Vintage Daytona's are risky business.

The watch you show has been the subject of a full (and I do mean full) overhaul by Rolex, probably sometime in the mid-1990s or more recently. The dial, bezel, pushers, crown, hands and band have all been updated at that time. Which is fine if you don't mind, but hardly original. $28K? I don't think so. Oh, and one other thing-- based on the case profile visible in the photo from reverse, I sincerely doubt this watch dates from the late 1960s. Probably more like late 1970s - early 1980s.

Best of luck. I wish I had insight. All I will say is there are too many facets of right and wrong as far as vintage Daytonas go.

I wouldn't buy one from anyone other than a trusted dealer or an original owner or his Son/Daughter.

While I love Daytonas, the hype and "Specifics" take the wind from my sails aboard the vessel of Vintage Rolex.

Thanks all.

From the PM's and posts I received, I am passing on this one.

I do trust the dealer, but he is not a watch guy. I think he has assessed it to his best ability, but he is no expert.

I will keep looking. Thank you for all your honest answers.

Love TRF!!
