Omega paid for the right to ask for an investigation - and that has made more impressions for RM than the original use of RM during the race.

I think the writer's closing comment aptly places RM in the panoply of luxury watches. PP has it right - it's the user interface! RM, for all its accuracy and delightful design, is not easy to live with.

"First of all, what time is it? It took me about 10 minutes to figure that out. It’s pretty impressive, but for 500 grand it had better give me stock tips, then take me back in time to watch the 1985 Super Bowl."

As for the athletes making money Bolt is worth in the $15m range after winning again. His marketing power is in his home country where he is bigger than any star is here in the US. Blake is said to be worth ~$5m from various sources. A lot of cash from running.
Your probably right Gunter.

But I can see that they might think it best to say something now, so they can appear to be trying to exercise what they believe is their rights now. It's a bit hard sometimes to exercise's one's right's in the fiuture if your always allowing this or that one to go initially.

Apparently even spectators are not allowed logos more than a few centimetres on their clothing.

I'm gonna go dressed like this, see what they do.

Hey right or wrong the sponsors are paying money for a deal they cut with the IOC.

Besides I'm more unhappy because the atheletes no longer sport country colors. I thought the atheletes represented the country. What happened to atheletes wearing their countries colors?

Noted at the medal presentation for the 200, Bolt was wearing a watch on his left wrist.

Bolt, after the medal presentation was holding the gold medal in his right hand for the winners photographs, with his left arm tucked slightly behind his back. Possibly mindful of the issue with Blake's RM?

The big issues FWIW...

It is commercial and I see how it can be. The line has to be drawn somewhere, else people will come in looking more like a billboard than anything.

IF they cause issue with this RM, then they need to draw a HARD line and ban ALL jewelry, watches, etc. You can't single out one brand because they are expensive. All these people wearing necklaces, etc need to go. I think people wearing Casio's will impact sales from Omega more than RM! RM is a whole other level.

From what I have seen it seems most athletes are wearing country colors. The US in track and field had a mainly red outfit with blue and white writing and trimming. I haven't watched all events so I may be wrong but most countries in track and field, cycling, beach volleyball and a few other sports I have followed seemed to be wearing their country colors.

Is it safe to wear a $500,000 Richard Mille Tourbillon prototype when digging through trash cans?

What about the track shoes the athletes wear then??

Adidas is the official sponsor of the games but most of the track athletes are wearing bright illuminous yellow NIKE shoes...also alot of the athletes are wearing heart rate monitors or lap timer watches which are probably Garmin or Pulsar..

I noticed that too and i wonder if NIKE did a BEATS and had their shoes delivered to the athletes quarters as it's just to suspect everyone wearing the same shoe in the same colour

Shoes are the one thing that is not controlled by the IOC. Athletes are allowed to wear shoes from their sponsor. This is allowed since shoes are so specific to an athlete. They train and race throughout the year in specific shoes and this carries over to the Olympics. Nike even customizes many of the shoes for their top athletes.

Nike is the biggest sponsor of track and field athletes in the world. They were brilliant by making their racing shoes the bright yellow because everyone noticed.

That is pure genius. I think I need to get a new pair of bright Lunar Glide 4s now...

As for the Richard Mille...I think that watch is running fast. Hehe.
