Wow - That's Great
Reading your original post gave me an adrenalin overload. I couldn't bear to read the entire thread out of nervousness.
I am relieved you wound up on top. Can you give me any advice? I have gotten burnt on Ebay on the Seller side but I would like to hear some pearls from you. |

Please don't let there be a sequel to this thread. It has been quite exhausting.

Is it still running? Let us know how the watch is behaving.

Okay friends. Well, I'm afraid I have a bit of a follow up to this story. Today the watch stopped running. I took the liberty of opening the case this evening after work and found a loose screw running about inside the movement
After removing the rotor and having a closer look, there is a loose part floating under the balance wheel, occasionally blocking the balance wheel from moving, thereby stopping the watch. I have no idea what the part is called but it has a circle at one end. I'm assuming that circle is where the loose screw should call home... Anyway, taking to a trusted, local independent watch maker tomorrow for repair. The good news is, the movement is the correct 3135 and right as rain If it wasn't for bad luck..... GH

Hmmm. Makes you wonder if it was serviced at all, or how competent he was?

This sounds so weird and I think the joke is on us. How do you know all the component names, yet sent the watch out to some internet guy. With your knowledge, you must know others that could have serviced the watch for you.

Lol Iazrollie- I am only a hobbyist. I have read some basic watch making books and know a few general watch making terms (as many hobbyists here have). I think most folks here know what a balance wheel is and what one looks like.
Anyway, I just very recently found a local watch maker. He is independent and has worked on a couple of my watches in the last week or two. He fixed my President's abnormal ticking for $39! I think that's pretty reasonable. Cheers, -GH

You got to be kidding Grant. I hope you snapped some pics with the watch stopped and as you removed the back and with the screw loose. I would send them to the guy you used and demand a full refund. You may even want to get a write up from the local watchmaker you now use. No way I would this guy get away with shoddy workmanship like that.

If we all contributed $1 every time we were all drug back into this thread we could've paid for for an actual RSC service
Still wondering why the OP knew how to take the rotor and balance wheel off but sent to someone on eBay to repair? |

Grant if you're not going after him for a refund at least tell me your going back to fleabay and write up a blazingly bad review with lots of detail. You may help other unfortunates avoid this kind of poor service.

Wow, so sorry to hear this.
Ask for a refund, see what he says. This guy sounds just like a watchmaker from Pennsylvania I found on one of the other watch forums. Did the same thing to me....had the snowed in excuse, I think I heard the surgery one but it was his wife... When I finally got the watch back after 2 1/2 months it didn't work. :( |

Ok ok I know everybody is sick of this thread. New, local watch maker just took a look at my watch and he can get it all squared up for $60...
Just in case anyone IS actually interested. The part that came loose is pictured below. It sits just above the balance wheel bridge to the right of the balance wheel jewel. Bill was $60 only because my cheap case opener misaligned my crystal cyclops AND when I took off the oscillating weight, apparently I messed up the GIB. (watchmaker says the GIB is a lever that holds the oscillating weight against it's jewel...) Apparently, when I disengaged the GIB I somehow tweaked it. -GH
