Rolex AD offers different discount
I looking to buy my first Rolex watch, interested Black submariner date and datejust2 black dial. AD dealer offering me 15% off sub and 25% off on datejust2. I don't understand why there is 10% gap on discount. With out discount datejust 2 is expensive and with discount datejust 2 is cheaper. Why is that? Could some one help me here.

Based on what I've seen, the DJ2 is difficult to move. Most who buy it new are taking a big beating on resale.

wow, my AD wouldn't give a discount on the Subs because they're so popular. 10% would have been awesome.
You're in Canada. Maybe different there? |

The problem isn't so much that they are unpopular. Taking the model as a whole I doubt it's a slow mover. I don't really know if the DJII is selling up to Rolex expectations or not but obviously it is a popular watch if you think of it as basically a DJ in a larger size. In that regard the DJ has been around forever and with the trend towards bigger watches I imagine the DJII is selling just fine. Plus you see a lot of members here have taken to the watch, if that's any evidence.
My theory is that the reason a DJ or DJII don't move as well as say the Sub is simply because of all the choices available with that model. Fluted or smooth bezel, numerous dial colors, plus roman/stick/arabic markers. There are many possible configurations of the watch. So for any given piece at the AD, a buyer that wants that specific one has to walk in the door. Even if an AD has a good selection, they probably don't have more than a small minority of the available choices. The Sub is also popular but doesn't suffer from this dilemma. Unless you want the LV you have the same choice as the Model T...black. So if a customer walks in looking for a DJII it is doubtful he will find the one he really likes. But if he comes in looking for a Sub (date or no date), as long as the AD has any at all in stock it will be the one he wants. This all means the AD doesn't have to offer as big a discount on the Sub to sell it. If you don't buy it, the next guy looking for a Sub probably will.

It has been my experience that cash is king. My AD will give a great discount if you pay with cash.

A Sub is a Sub and the DJ has so many variations that ADs will discount just to move stock, imo

You're lucky if you can get a discount take it! My AD will not discount any watch in the SS sports line, not even 1%! I just bought an SS Daytona my sixth watch from them, they would not give me a discount. They gave me a watch winder, some really nice Rolex books and Rolex goodies but no discount.
On precious metal they can discount but on SS nope...so frustrating.

I think Rolex submariner is limited to each store. Datejust II is unlimited.
