Pepsi bezel fading
I am fascinated by the GMT 1675 Pepsi bezels.
(I own a root beer, so I'm no longer allowed to look at any other rb). I have searched high + low for a straight answer (if it exists) without any luck. (1) The only REAL pepsi is the basic red and navy blue, correct? (2) The blue sometimes fades toward lighter/turquoise ? (3) Does the red actually hit the magenta shade - or are these aftermarket concoctions pretending to be aged? I happen to love the look of the turquoise/red...and the magenta - but the magenta just seems a bit unreal. thanks |

It really depends on the vintage of the bezel and what paints the manufacturer used. You can see all kinds of combinations.I like them Au Naturale.

This is by far the best faded Pepsi bezel that I have seen. One of my mates has one too with similar fading effect! Love it! What about pics of the rest of its five sibilings? |

Some different purple/fushia shades, and some others Gmt faded insert colors. A faded insert really transform your watch, and it's less expensive than buying another watch. Michel I am looking for a heavily faded blue with cherry red. Wondering if you had one of those. Can you post pics of your inserts? You must have a great collection.

This continues to attract interest. In AD in Dubai a couple of weeks ago, yes they were interested in my BB GMT II as they are new, but my daughter's Pepsi attracted the most attention.
This photograph was taken following a service in December, AD asked if the bezel was to be replaced because of the scratch? ? ? |

Here is the insert on my crustybeater GMT. I have no reason to believe it was chemically altered but I have had it less than a year.

Here are my two faded vintage inserts - the original fat-font one, which has faded to a great light blue and coppery red, and then one I bought recently, which is often referred to as 'mega' or 'super' fat font, which I believe to be earlier than the watch (watch is 1966). The red has turned very light pink, while the blue is a deep indigo. These really fat ones were from the early 60s, as far as I know.

Here's my GMT (#2.32m, 1969) shown with two different bezels. The original fat-font is on the left and a circa ~1980 replacement on the right. The original ring and insert were lost while doing yard work and replaced, but were found a few years later. It hasn't been on the watch since except for this photo and has been stored inside mostly out of any exposure to light. The insert on the right has been on the watch for ~33 years, worn almost daily since, but doesn't look as faded as the original and the colors are obviously different. At the time of replacement >30 years ago I was told that the newer inserts didn't fade as much as older ones because of different materials used. I find that credible since the newer insert has been exposed to the elements 3X that of the original.

Insert fade on the GMTs seem to vary all over the place. The fuchsia colored inserts seem to be more prevalent from the late 1960s to early 1970s.

Beautiful watches, I'm really glad to see them in such excellent condition, and the fading of the insert is awesome. ;)
