Big Crown Love!!
can you feel it!!!
these 6538's are as rare as fish toe's! I was lucky enough to actually find one with service papers! I remember the first couple of times I bought one of these for customers of mine I thought that I would never be able to afford one of these for myself.. if I knew then what I know now...you know~ I am truly a lucky -lucky man! MOSTLY, because I have many great friends here on TRF! thanks everybody for all your continued support, and hopefully 2010 is half as fruitful as 2009 was. |

What's wrong with the dial?
I thought the last 3 years of production for the 6538 had the COSC dial - just like that one. |

so always look at the crown, the ROLEX print ( as those are for Submariners from '55 - '59 always the same ) print of the depth rating, once studied in detail you will immediatly see it's off... But sure, here's more info, left ( little beter ) redone dial & right the original one, check details and you see differents in typo and placing.... Then there are 2 versions, early batch with high radium lume and 1 colour gilt orint from beginning to circa end '57 and second serie, updated with less radium lume and 2 colour print, depth in silver till end of production... Here a summery in timeline of above... and a nice Big Crown group scan from last Passion meeting... Hope this helpes you and also changes your perspective about me not sharing any info ;-) rgt.Philipp |

The dial was refinished,as we all know how hard it is to find an original gilt dial..
but as the watch wasnt for sale there was no need to bring up the fact.. Now if I was some newby who didnt know what an original dial looks like then it would be appropriate to bring out that fact so as to save someone from unknowingly buying a piece with a refinished dial. anyway, its all a moog point as we didnt close the deal on it anyways now. so my hunt still continues for my personal big crown.. that one is still available thru John Brozak if anyone is interested. |
