Rolex 16800 Sub with 16600 SD screw back ?
I wrote to the owner of a Rolex 16800 Sub with a 16600 screw back (?)
from a Sea-Dweller (without engravings). On Auction at e-Bay and asked him if this was correct ....his response was... Hello, It is not uncommon for watches to come from the factory with differing case back numbers, we believe this to be all original. Thanks for your interest, Ryan. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:RTQ:US:1123 What do you think ? |

It seems odd , but the 16600 case back is sometimes found on late 1665's and 16600 stamped case back has been used as a service case back . With or without SD engravings ?
This could be a service case back fitted at a later stage . I doubt that the watch originally came with that case back . We have seen funnier things coming out of RSC's in the old days |

I have also seen the different case backs in different models but Rolex back then would cross out the old reference and re-engrave the new reference underneath. I was thinking that if the 16800 screw back was lost it was perhaps replaced with a fake screw back Anyway I do not want a 16800 with a 16600 case back even if it is placed there by Rolex. |

I hear you loud and clear , the absence of engraving seems more then odd to me.
This could be anything from a fake case back to a mediocre service case back fitted by some Rolex SC . I would NOT want it either . |

Anyway his 16800 "head only" has already gone up to $2.750 with 26 bids and 8 days left in auction (?) There is no "meat" with this purchase. A good bracelet will cost $800 and the total price is all of a sudden "out there' Not for me anymore.. |

Damn! I had no idea that a 16800 head could fetch that much. Mine has an authentic case back and no bracelet as well. Hmmm?
