Need Help on choosing a first MontBlanc fountain pen.

I thought the hard part was done that I asked wifey for a MontBlanc fountain pen for my birthday present and she said yes.

Now what?.....

Please help me out since I've always wanted to own a fountain pen but don't know anything about Montblanc.

Thanks,

Astroboy.

Montblanc was founded in 1906, named after the Mont Blanc mountain, chosen as the company's symbol of high standards. The height of the mountain in meters is stamped on every nib that the company sells. The eight-pointed snowcap is also another symbol of the Mont Blanc mountain...

Yeah enough about that.

If you're buying a fountain pen, then we need to know a lot about you. Fountain pens are very personal items and they last for centuries (I'm not making that last bit up). We need to know your writing habits, writing style, what you intend to use the pen for, etc. Then we can tell you what you should look for.

Your best course of action is to visit a MontBlanc boutique and write with their sample fountain pens to see which nib you like the best and then check out their different lines of pens!!!

It's confusing at first, but go to a MB boutique and they will have a rack of identical pens but with different nibs. You try these first to see what nib style is your favorite to write with...THEN you pick the style pen you want and order with the nib you liked best.

Don't try the pen you like best because the ones in the store will only have a certain nib and you may not like it.

Nib first, pen last.

Thank you all for replied.

My fountain pen experienced go back in time when I was in Elementary School in Vietnam. most kids were writing with fountain pens. the one with a wooden handle and a metal nip. You have to dip the nip in a bottle of ink and write until the ink ran out. some kids had a Parker pen with the bump inside, now that was realy fancy!

I have a small hand so I'd prefered a smaller size pen. Nip size, I'd like it more in fine. I would use it more often in my meetings and taking executive notes and signing check paying employees.

Preliminary researching, think I like the classic Meisterstuck 144 or something like that.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks,

Astroboy

The classique size is very nice for small hands. I have that in BP. I believe it's also a bit shorter.

Also before buying, determine if you prefer posting the cap as some do and some don't.

My first (and only for now) MB FP is a Med Nib Carbon/Steel Meisterstuck classique size. I love it. It's a little broad for every day notes, so go with a Fine nib and you'll love it!

I would NOT recommend the 144. It's a tiny tiny tiny pen. I couldn't use it. And I have tiny hands.

I would suggest the 145 (Chopin). It's a good, medium-sized pen with a good ink capacity and a light weight.

The classic MB is a black and gold Meisterstuk. The LeGrand (146) is definitely worth checking out as a good all rounder.

Great tip, I will be sure to remember this when I go to purchase my first pen too.

X2

For sure. The LeGrand is a timeless classic and would be a wonderful choice.

At a meeting yesterday and saw a lady sat across the table with a fountain pen. Can't make out what it was, but it wasn't MB!

I want mine now.....!

Welcome to the world of fountain pens! X2 on trying them out and get a feel for the nib and then the body. Works on a $5 pen as well as a $5K pen. Good luck.

I would highly recommend the 146 if thats going to be your first and only MB fountain pen. I have the star walker and bohem FP as well, but still think 146 is most classic and iconic. I feel thats what defines MB FP, just my 2 cents.

I have a 144 and a 147. I love them both. Go to a boutique and try them out, and then you will know what suits you.
