Help please!!!!
My father in law decided to take the back case off of my DSSD... He's a jeweler but not a certified Rolex dealer. Not smart by me I know...After much aggravation and anger he told me he took it off because he wanted to see the movement...
Anyway. My question is now that he took it off and did some snooping he did put it back on. My question is the rolex still waterproof? I'm not planning on going 12,800 feet deep but I do plan on taking the kids to the pool. Under theses circumstances will it be ok? Thanks.

There is no possible way for us to know if it is still waterproof....
However, there is no reason to think that it wouldn't be if your father was experienced and capable of taking it off and putting it back.... There isn't any magic that falls out when you take the back off...

Tom, as long as the O-ring wasn't pinched or squashed completely, I'm sure it'll be fine!
(Maybe not to 12800, but should be good to normal depths) Next time, tell your dad to pull something else apart and not your Rolex!! If you are genuinely concerned, RSC is the only place to test at the level the DS requires..

My concern was weather or not there was a special seal that may have been broken? I'm a rolex nubie.. But I obviously understand nobody here will know for sure without seeing it in hand.. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

That's Rob. I agree.. He was only supposed to clean the bracelet. For whatever reason he did what he did.

Leave any refiinishing for RSC when a service is due...Otherwise, you're just removing SS if it is refinished to many times! Enjoy the DSSD..It's a great watch!!

no special seal
The back just screws on. The seal is still there, typically, and about all that can happen is the screwing action could twist the gasket. This isn't something that happens a lot but can happen.

Me, I would take it to a Rolex AD for pressure-testing. And in the dead of the night I would take a baseball bat to the windows and lights of his car.

I'm suprised he had the right size caseback opener, as its a much different size than comes with any of the common Rolex case opening sets. I don't think even Rolex AD's with watchmakers have the proper tool. I've seen them for sale online, but wouldnt think many watchmakers have it.

If you bring the watch to a Rolex AD they might only test it to 12800ft and not a reasonable depth. Bring it to a "normal" AD... They can test it for a normal depth....

Wow, that would make me sick. RSC are pretty much the only ones that can do the pressure test rating on a DSSD.
