different coronets for 5512 dials with minute ring

answering to ndb80 ...
here are the 3 different types of coronets ( and dials ) for 5512 with minutes ring :

1) mk1 : here shown on a very early model with square shoulders ;
someone call it also "twisted crown" due to the last ferrule on the right that seems to be "twisted" ( moved on the right ) ; in use from 1959 to 1961 :

( the word SUBMARINER can be either in silver or gold (in this case under the coat of transparent paint )).

2) mk2 : the dial with "tulip" coronet ( the name comes from its shape that looks like the head of the flower ) ; in use from 1959 up to 1961 :

3) mk3 : ( no nickname found untill now ) : it's the last model , in use from
1961 up to the end of 5512/3 with minutes ring dials ( end of 1963 circa ) :

footnote : in mk2 and mk3 dials .. the 2 lines of maximum depth are quite close , but not 100 % equal ( see the different shape of the letter "t" ).

yes .. and btw this is the only one seen untill now with case and dial in excellent conditions,
as almost have either a very worn case or a "sad" dial , and sometimes both ...

Great post Marcello..... Now this is what I like about TRF

And never actually noticed that twisting effect on the early crown

Give me this any day over.......

How do I use the bezel on my Sub.....?

My GMT hand seems to be losing time.....and goes slower than the hour hand.

Can I take my watch on holiday....?

What are the long and short pointy things on my watch face ....?

Sorry and no offence guys if anyone has actually posted such comments ....but pleeeeaaassseeee

Sorry Marcello but I just couldn't resist..... and yes probably very British - I just hope I dont get hate mail

But when you see a carefully researched, knowledgable and interesting post like your own compared to some of the mundane ramblings fired off with machine gun regularity, it's like night and day and a real breath of fresh air . Thanks ever so much for sharing

Thank you very much! I was the op in the other thread...
Very good explanation and i now clearly understand that mine has NOT got a tulip coronet...

from your description I guess my dial is a MkIII ?
serial is 693xxx and caseback says III-60...

yes ndb , it's a mk3 dial with a case produced in 1961, so perfect with a back like your.
just for curiosity : are you an Inter supporter ??
I think is very rare in your country !
