Rolling the dice with Michael Young...

I just sent the oiriginal stretched 1977 14k/SS jubilee bracelet off my GMT 1675/3 to Michael Young for tightening. I will keep TRF members appraised of the progress and result in light fthe recent controversy regarding Mr. Young's service.

People make mistakes.

The only people who dont make mistakes are... PEOPLE WHO DONT DO ANYTHING!!!!

I have sent 30 odd bracelets to Michael over the last 3 years - sure he doesnt answer emails, but he will send you one when your bracelet is ready. I think his turn around is 3 months at the moment.

My advice - accept the above or go elsewhere!!!

I am right behind you with my '76 C&I...and perhaps I have been lucky but I'd say Michael is reasonably responsive on email. Certainly on par with some "trusted" dealers (where sometimes it seems like the emails just slip through the cracks...)

I've always wanted to get one of my vintage pieces stretch fixed. I can't wait to see the finished results.

Err Buddies...as little as Orchi knows...
MY does NOT fix the bands himself anymore...

These days...the key word is...
outsourcing...LOL!

Here a 1803 RG band that came to Orchi recently...
It was completely worn n unwearable...

This is how the exact band looks like now...
n the best part is...
it took Orchi only 2 to 3 weeks to get it fixed...

Again...the magic word is...outsourcing...

Why do Buddies here too have to put up with...
the lack of timely response...
n looooooooooooooong delays...
at the hiked up prices...
is really beyond Orchi...

Err Buddies...on that RG President bands...the works done + Gold/material used had cost $500...
as it was really worn out n the cost of labour + material was more to get it tightened...

Eventually the RG band was submitted to RSC here...
in order to get additional 2 RG links...
as the tightened band ended up shorter(naturally the worn out one is longer)...

The Extra 2 RG links cost over $800 each...if Orchi can recall correctly...
(RSC did inspect n mentioned that actual yellow gold material was used in the restoration...of the worn out links)

You see Buddies...the "outsourced" folks working on this trade...
do it day in n day out in HOT n SWEATY conditions...
for very little pay in return...
Most of the price difference from hiked up rates...
have gone to the Middlemen in Hong Kong...
whom would readily exploit the cheap labour n hard works of these pitiful folks...
for their own selfish n commercial gains...

To these middlemen...
they used their usual excuse of having "high" overheads...
to charge n hold the clients at the King's ransom...
whilst they would pay very little to the...
band restorer...Dial restorer...n watchmakers...

Orchi's own personal initiative...
is to provide steady business at reasonable rates...
for these pitiful folks in the trade...
In return...they are very happy to do a good job for Orchi...

Nevertheless...
Orchi does NOT offer this sort of restoration service...
to make money...
Orchi does it SOLELY for the benefits of fellow COLLECTOR Buddies ONLY...
who would NOT have any business in the Vintage watch trades...
or habour any commercial interest out of it...
n solely for the passion of assisting...
fellow Vintage Rolex watch collector buddies...
in the crazy hobby of ours...

Anyway...band restoration works do carry certain risks...
For example:
Usually the 7836 or 9315 Oyster band with folded links...
n those riveted band links...of 7206 or 6636(expandable)
tend to crack up when opening n closing...
during polishing n restoration works...
These bands are very tricky to work with...
n spare links are required to complete the works...

These days however there is hardly any spare folded links around...

I sent 2 steel bracelets to Michael Young Classicwatchparts in Hong Kong for restoring a few months back, he sent me a mail saying someone opened and stole the contents. Although fully insured I haven't received a penny yet. Just saying watch out and choose your carrier service carefully.

Err Buddies...Orchi wishes to clarify few important points OPENLY in here...
to avoid any misunderstandings later on...

1. Beforehand...
Orchi needs to see the clear close up scans of the complete band...
to check its present conditions thoroughly...
to see if the band is salvageable...or not...

2. Regretfully...
Orchi is unable to serve any watch dealer...
in band or watch/case restoration works...

3. Regretfully...
Orchi does not serve anyone who intends to have the band or watch restored...
for resale purpose...

4. Regretfully...
Orchi does not serve anyone who does not own the band or watch in the 1st place...
NO 3rd party property...please.

5. Band or watch must be shipped by USPS(if from USA)...
or Registered Post by recognized postal mail service provider(from elsewhere)...
or by UPS/DHL/FEDEX...
at owner's OWN insurance...risk n cost...

Orchi shall endeavor to ship it back to the owner by FEDEX only...
Any Liability is strictly in accordance to what FEDEX states in its Airway Bill...
The owner pays n accepts the risk for this return shipment also...

Orchi shall not be held liable or responsible for ANY damage or loss...

6. Full S/nos. of the watch which the band is intended to be fitted on...
must be provided...

Upon arrival...The Full S/nos. would be engraved suitably in the band...
solely for proper reference n tracking purpose...

Without Full S/nos. Orchi regrets not being able to accept the band for restoration...

7. For further details...
Please feel free to contact Orchi at...
