2/1/2012 Count Down? Are prices increasing?

I've read a about prices increasing on a lot of blogs posted.
Do you think February is going to be the increase. If so are you buying anything on 1/31/12?

I'm in the middle on this. I'm thinking it's true. People have said ADs have stopped receiving shipments.

Hard to tell. Rolex increased prices 2x in Asia in 2011 and I thought they'd increase again on Dec 1....but no increases yet. I think April 2012 is more a certainty.

I would agree there is an increase in the near horizon but whether it is in February/March/April... only Rolex knows. Either way it would not surprise me as I am sure it is already in the works

When do they get to a price point that they are not worth the money????

I am thinking that they are already there. No way is a SS sport watch is worth $9000, no way.

By by tool watch, hello preppy jewelery.

I spent $6400 out the door for my Sub C, that is my max for a mass produced, assembly line watch.

I was at an AD in Pennsylvania at 5:00 pm today who had not yet gotten any word of price increase. Given the last one took effect 15-Oct-11 he thinks we're OK until March but admittted it's anybody's guess. (Got the new Exploration Perpetual Spirit Book/Magazine - AWESOME!)

Trevor, this is unfortunately the way it is with all watches... Rolex, Panerai, Patek... and on and on... I agree it seems to be a bit on the high side however if people are willing to pay and guess what they are it will continue.

To your question what is enough? I wish I knew... At this rate we will be over 10k in no time for a SS Sub, we shall see what happens.

For me, I love Rolex and will continue to buy regardless but I will just complain more

It all depends on a lot of variables, some of which are outside the control of Rolex.

I do not believe that Rolex raises prices arbitrarily. Increased costs, demand, supply, and currency values all contribute to their decisions.

I think that given the history of price increases that Rolex will probably raise prices in the Spring, but I have to say that it is not written in stone, based on the information that is readily available on the internet.

To distill the answer to it's bare essentials, no one knows.

I used the 'waybackmachine' to look at historical prices on old web pages.
Here's what I got:

year model 16613 or replacement change %
RRP DOLLARS
2003 6200
2004 6675 7.7%
2005 7100 6.4%
2006 7825 10.2%
2007 7825 0.0%
2008 9300 18.8%
2009 10400 11.8%
2010 11250 8.2%
2011 12200 8.4%

year model 16610 or replacement change %
RRP
2003 3950
2004 4250 7.6%
2005 4525 6.5%
2006 5175 14.4%
2007 5175 0.0%
2008 6000 15.9%
2009 6000 0.0%
2010 7375 22.9%
2011 8000 8.5%

Here's an example link I used:
waybackmachine

Click on a blue date to see a web page from the past and click on a model to see the price on that date.
