Any good stories??

Do you guys have any good "oh shit! It's broke now!!" but it still works stories?? I'll start off with my placing my first Rolex (GMT II) on the ledge of our balcony in Hilton Head, god knows why, and I accidently bumped it over. It went two stories to the ground, bounced and landed on the concrete side walk. I felt like dying, as I ran down to get it. A few scratches, that's it! Didn't miss a beat! Try that with a Patek!!!
I did ruin a good watch though, not my fault! I just had my Ebel auto chronograph, 18k/s.s. back from Ebel service dept for it's five year service, and decided to go swimming in S. Beach, Miami.(Yes it's water resist.) Just waded out and swam for a few minutes, and came back in. I then checked the time to discover water under the crystal, SALT water. The crown was pressed down before the swim, so I didn't screw up, god I was pissed!! The next day, you could not even move the stem, it was toast. Come to find out the idiot at Ebel service forgot the gaskets during the service, so aside from the case, and bracelet, Ebel made me a new watch no charge!! It was out of warranty, and I wonder if I had, had it serviced elsewhere, what the $$$ would be??
By the way, thanks AJ for the info on Saudiland

ok I gotta ask, what the heck were you thinking putting your watch on the ledge of the balcony??????

Mind you, I think you tested the watch very well and it stood up to your punishment

Nothing really bad dropped my SD on the bathroom hotel floor while in
Singapore. The timing went way out, took it to the Singapore AD, they
sorted it in 30 mins.

Nope, can't say as I do. When my watches break, they stay broke. But it's mostly the quartz watches that sometimes go bad. A couple of Casios that have (had) memory just up and died. But at $40 a shot, I didn't cry over them too much.

Many years ago, I went to the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal and bought a Russian watch. Of course, it turned out to be a real POS. I think it stopped working after about 3 months. Still have the thing, though. Keep it for old times sake.

That would make me old enough to be your father's grandpa.

Ed, assuming it's mechanical, is it fixable?
