5513 first service since 1979

Well did I screw it up? Do the lugs look ok?
Any observations....

Hard to say from one shot but it looks pretty good. Did they replace the hand set?

By the way, nice 5513 and welcome to TRF

Do they glow ( brightly) when subjected to light followed by being placed in a dark area?

First off, gorgeous Mk1 Maxi dial!!!! It looks to me that these hands have been replaced if not during this service, then perhaps a prior one? They definitely appear a bit lighter than the dial. Gorgeous watch! wear it in good health. That is one of the most coveted matte dial 5513s!

Wow! Thanks for the kind words. Wish I would have found you guys before i had it serviced. Paid $725.00 back then could not afford one with date. They let me take it home and pay a 100.00 a month. Lol those days are gone!

The hands are service replacements. It's kind of ashame... Being that it's a 35 yr old watch, first service. Judging by the beauty of the dial/case, I would have loved to see it with matching hands. Congrats on a beautiful watch!

Question, next time the watch is serviced should I try to locate hands that are patina appropriate and have them installed?

In spite of being a purist I must say I really like the colour contrast between the crisp silvery hands and the patinaed dial. Its a bit odd though that the hands do not glow as they would if they were replaced with Luminova-ones at the service. Did you buy the watch new and never had it serviced before?

Love the strap!

If I were you I would definitely try to source some patina correct hands. With those along with the superdome crystal this watch would be absolutely perfect. Still nice as it is though now!

GORGEOUS MAXI!!!!! Love the insert too. Im puzzled as to how the hands are so much lighter if they were never replaced? Were they lighter before the service?

No matter what that watch is stunning and looks good regardless. You can always have them color matched or just wait for the next service and have new matching hands installed. A matching pearl would be a cherry on top as well. congrats and welcome to the forum!

oh and you DIDNT ruin your sub with the polishing. Looks nice. Case is still very thick and sharp.

Btw. I just seen these on VRF. they look like they would match your dial nicely. http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...+tritium+hands

Nope. Crystal replacement is needed during the service to ensure that it is water tight.

How about having watchmaker re-install at next service?

no - it's push-fit and now already compromised, somewhat, being 'used'...
