Rolex Tridor President - CrownCollection opinion

David,

I have always been a fan of the Tridor President. I know it's a very 80's piece but I am an 80's kid. All snarky comments aside from the peanut gallery, if I were to purchase one of these, is it really a possibility that what you see in this link could happen? I can't imagine this is how Rolex engineered this bracelet. In any case, please take a look at the link and give me your opinion. The dial on the watch in question doesn't look right to me leading me to think this is a replica.

I think it's a dumb post because this "known collector" has a bad experience and he's out to wage total war on Rolex.

He doesn't bother to explain what really happened at Rolex. He just makes the claim that Rolex doesn't fix a watch older than four years.

I don't know the details, either, but could it be that Rolex no longer has the stock to fix the watch? That would be strange, I think, but it was not big selling piece so that may be the case and Rolex makes it known that they can't fix watches forever. There are limits based on parts availability.

Then, there's the option of getting a second opinion first from another service center and alternatively, from an independent.

Jewelers do this kind of work all the time. I don't know what the deal is, but would it be too much for this man to look around.

Cheong is a well-known big shot in the watch world, to be sure, but in my opinion, he's acting like a child and I'd be reluctant to have him as my physician or surgeon.

i have a gut feeling the tridor will be very collectable in the future...
the number of good examples is small and it happens to look great.

Agreed on the front that the Doctor is being unreasonable regarding the repair. Thats not why I attached the link primarily. The main reason was to ask about the Tridor's engineering. It just seems odd that the piece is assembled using adhesive and not fused/welded in some way or another. Makes me leery since I spend a lot of time in the lake and ocean and never take off my watches to do so........that alone will steer me away no matter who cool it looks to this 80's kid.
