Why No Love For 5712G?

I own one of these watches and I'm in the process of selling it to fund a Datograph, otherwise I would keep it. It's tough going and I'm not sure whether people just don't like it (honest answers please) or whether I'm pricing it too high (pm if you have suggestions). I think it's an amazing watch that's 6 degrees of separation from the ss version, but I'm not sure why others don't seem to "get it". What am I not getting? Any comments or pm's gratefully received!

Congrats on Dato-killer piece.

As for WG 5712, I think like many brands, WG doesn't quite sell as well (especially when there is a SS version).

Wise move however and look forward to Dato incoming (Plat or RG?)

I owned the RG version but before buying was seriously considering the WG 5712. They're both nice watches but when you see them side by side the RG and the brown dial really pop and the grey dial just looks a little dull. I've seen your for sale posts and think your asking price is a little high for a preowned watch, BNIB can be had from the right AD for about what you're asking for preowned. Also I think people are a little worried about Patek pricing and whether there will be another price cut, I'm seeing tons of unsold inventory of hard to find references at AD's.

I agree with you--plenty of PP to had right now. Will be interesting to see what happens this year.

Can you post a link to your for sale listing? I couldn't find it unless it's being sold by a third party.

my personal thought is the nautiluses with straps are significantly less popular than bracelet models. and more than people would like to admit, the whole watch market is soft including the previously untouchable PP.

While the gray is really nice, I think the blue dial of the SS gives it a head start before getting into anything else.

Add to that the price difference between steel and gold, and then that the steel is on a bracelet vs strap, the great balance of weight with the SS, there are a few other factors that sway me to the SS version first.

I don't think it's appropriate for me to post the link here. It's not being posted on this site (shame on me I know!), but you can figure out with two sites that both begin with T. A bit of guessing will get you in the zone.

I guess the question is really do I hold on and wait for the market to change, or cut and run?

It felt great on my wrist but the grey dial with SS was a little flat, found the same with the AP elephant. Dato is more the ticket!

Yes

5712 is a modern piece and certainly not going up in price.

If it were a vintage piece maybe you could rationalize some market fluctuation.

Why No Love For 5712G?

Congrats to your Dato,a great watch!

Regarding 5712 ,i think others precisely said the SS is so nice that ppl may prefer that one instead of the G.

I'm speaking of California and I've seen 5711 1R, 5980 1R, 5990, 5205R, 5270G blue and white dial, 5905P black dial, 5167 and 5164, and plenty more. I live in Southern California and there are lots of AD's here. Same in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The 5712G is a really nice PP but it doesn't have the "pop" like the SS and RG versions. The grey dial is a bit monotone and too light, IMO. I don't think the value will go up anytime soon so I would sell it and get the Dato. Good luck!

I'm surprised by the 5167. A year ago you had a long wait for one and now AD's have them readily avail ??!

Good luck and your watch is beautiful. I greatly prefer the grey dual models. I don't care for the blue on pp's. Also, I love rg but would wear because I'd feel like a target. No real reason other than I know it's yellow or rose colored and feel people would assume it's gold. Now wg, for me flies under the radar!

Thanks,
Everett

It never really appeals to me. The dial looks kind of wash out under most lighting condition, even worse than the 5712R. The nicest 5712 is still the SS/bracelet version with the electric blue dial.

There were no 5167's when I tried getting one last year for a while, and luckily got one at my dealer when the person ahead backed out. Seems like there are a boatload here on TRF for sale nowadays.

Agree. Almost bought one last week but that dial gives me a headache.

Easy the nicest go like this IMO, ss, rg and wg, while it's a very nice watch it doesn't pop IMO like the 2 others, if you propose me free yours or the ss I take the ss anyday, bracelet and blue dial win it over the wg, it's very nice but just not as cool as the 2 others for me and it seems for many people

Beautiful piece but as many have stated, SS on bracelet is just much more popular. I would lower the price and get out quick as I do not see much appreciation in the near future.

I like the 5711g, but if I was going for a nautilus on a strap I prefer the 5726a for similar price

Yes because in Paris you can't order any ss nautilus or the 5167 in ss, either at ad or at the Patek salon, they told me the lists were way too huge, the only one they had when I went was the 5164, no nautilus whatsoever for example

About this 5712G when I was looking for my SS one I could get a wg in excellent condition for 22.000 euros, at the time the SS was at 27.200 euros, and the cheapest second hand ones in SS were around 24.000, so I know it sucks but basically if you want to sell it you really need to cut the price, don't know what you want for it but as someone said it's probably too much

Can a nautilus without the bracelet ever be complete?
