Hi there guys. This has been (still is) a hectic week, I have been in 5 cities in the last 4 days and this will keep on going 'til wednesday. Currently, sitting @ Mexico City airport, 2T Sub with me waiting for next plane; but wanted to share something that happened last night. Because of my job, I was sitting with a couple of customers last inght in a small town, we were having dinner; ocean front (actually ocean top; on a dock) full moon, gentle breeze; talking about life while having Montecristos (yes, cuban....everything else is NOT a cigar) and after hearing a story from one of them, whose dad worked hard all his life to have enough to live a good life when he would retire and then suudenly finding death at age 52....it hit me. Hard. I have heard stories like these several times before, but by some strange reason (thanks God!) this time something clicked. I, as you, are a WIS; just bought my latest toy and I am already hunting for the new one; collection includes Rolex (70's day date, '00 day date, 2T datejust, 2T sub, Exp II) Corum (Casino Bubble, my son's favorite watch) Cartier (Pasha, Roadster) IWC (Aquatimer) Panerai (Luminor Marina) Omega (Seamaster) and the list goes on. Most of them are sitting in a safe; I keep only 2-3 watches out. After last night; I have been thinking: why do I keep my watches pristine and in a safe? Why do I wear some of them 4-5 times (days) a year? What is the point of spending so much time and money buying these beauties only to store them? For what? I think I should care a little bit less about scratches and dings and start enjoying my watches....comments?

It does seem silly to pay so much money for a watch only to be afraid of wearing it. These watches are built to be worn, not to be locked up in a safe somewhere.

I was struck by something else in your message. I’ve suffered a mild heart condition in 2001, had to take medicine for a year. Once thought I was going to push daisies. Makes you to think your life all over. It doesn’t matter if the watches are in a safe or not. It matters if they help you to enjoy your life! To me, my wife and daughter are the most important things in my life. Next come my own life, my health and then my ‘goodies’. It’s all about getting your priorities right. I believe that many, if not all, of us Rolex and watch nuts got that part of their lives straightened out. So the mere materialistic part is just priority 3. Enjoy life to the fullest!

You got that right, Paulie. That's why all my watches are either on my wrist or on winders waiting to be worn. Nothing goes into a safe where I can't get at it on a moment's notice. They're all insured for replacement value and they're only things that can be replaced. Hell, we bought these things because we enjoy them. What kind of enjoyment can we get if they're wasting away in a safe.

Get them out and wear them, Gerardo, even if you only wear a given watch once every couple of months. At least you'll have them out to look at and decide if at that moment you want to strap one of them on.

Paul, after buying another Pannie I can't afford nice shoes, can I borrow a pair? I guess I do have more than enough straps to make a few pairs.

Nice post G. Live is short, love the ones around you more than you think you can. Be the type of friend that you would want to have as a friend. Don't waste time worry about the small stuff.

Thank you all for your comments. Today: my son's B-day; I will wear his favorite watch: Corum Bubble Casino. I don't care if it matches my wardrobe (or shoes), I will just make him happy!

Gerrardo, life is for the living, to be lived to the fullest.

A few years back I had an (undocumented) case of West Nile disease and at its worst, I was sure I was going to die. Very scary! That put it in perspective for me.

No sense in putting off to tomorrow what you can do and enjoy today. Live it and enjoy it cuz once you're gone, you can't take it with you.

Good reading... sounds like you have an interesting life too.

I wear my GMT 24/7 ... the people with whom I spend a lot of time dont understand risking a $4K watch, but like you said, why not enjoy them!!
