I’ve loved mine for 19 years and counting. It was my first nice watch and every time I think of parting with it I change my mind. It’s a great, and beautiful watch.

It's a weird one I find, in that not many seem to like it and the five digit ones sell for cheap.

I tend to wear it more than the BLNR and LV as I just love the dial.

It shouldn’t matter if it’s appreciated by others or not.

I’ve always liked the Platinum YM, looks great and probably the most comfortable watch Rolex makes.

Not a huge fan. I think it would look better with just a regular matte steel/grey dial instead of the sparkly dial.

Superb looking Rolex, dial and bezel are stunning, never understood why they aren’t more popular. Even though this version has been discontinued for a few years now there’s still not much love for them.

Second Rolex I bought and one of my favorites. As far as favorite SS Rolex in my collection, 116610LV is number 1 and 16622 is number 2.

I had one, sold it after a few months. It was too monochrome for me, with the polished bits of the bezel easily scratched. I was shocked when it came time to sell, how little demand there was for it and what a bath I took on the sales price.

Live and learn. Well, I haven't actually learned anything, but I live on, hoping that I will.

The Yacht-Master platinum dial filled a very specific niche and used to come at a hefty premium at MSRP. Preowned prices however were somewhat attractive (anything from 20 to 30% off BNIB was not uncommon when still in production).

It's an understated watch, perhaps a bit shy at first but reveals itself gradually as an interesting piece, with a sandblasted platinum dial nicely sparkling under the right lighting condition, making it a truly unique work of art in the Rolex professional range, IMHO.

Managing to come across as an elegant sports watch is no easy task as these two elements are difficult to blend. I think the platinum Yacht-Master succeeds beautifully in that respect. It is not trying to be what it's not - a rugged "macho" tool watch - but instead is a refined timepiece suited to almost any occasion.

It's seducing more than trying to impress. Definitely more yin than yang. I love it.

When these first came out, they were really hard to find at AD's. That's obviously been a while. The platinum dial is beautiful in sunlight. I've never owned one, but I've been considering picking up one of the now discontinued platinum dial 116622 models from the pre-owned market.

The YM, just like the Explorer II, will be moving up in price very soon (already is) and will see more demand due to the 'shortage'.

As people go into the store for a submariner or GMT; they see the Explorer II and YM sitting in the case. People see them, try them on, and realize how nice they actually are and buy them - or leave and go into the secondary market to look at pricing and buying.

This will drive up the price and demand for this model.

The Explorer II 16570 was first, since it was a long-standing 'bargain' for buying a used Rolex. For YEARS it was a relatively cheap piece to acquire around $3500 USD when the SS shortage started, but now it's almost double at $5500 USD and even more for 3186 models.

The 16622 YM was sitting at $5000 USD but is now steadily creeping up, and selling much faster, as it becomes more popular and has a 'relatively' low price point on the grey market.

Interesting responses from all to this thread, it is exactly what I envisioned from this community, giving some much needed love to the neglected but most elegant of rolex sports models

I go back and forth on it. Basically, I think it's a great watch. I especially like the idea that we're seeing something unique with the dial. Usually, when we use a metal as a color description, we mean it representationally; e.g., the rhodium dial Y-M is just a color of paint, and isn't literally rhodium. But the platinum-dial Y-M is really platinum. Along with the bezel, that makes it quite a different offering. Then there are times I find it a bit monochromatic, and find the contrast of the blue dial Y-M more engaging. On the whole, though, I really like the platinum dial, and was very close to pulling the trigger on an NOS version of the last six-digit model I saw recently. Alas, I hesitated due to price (and likely depreciation), and it sold.

I think it’s quite a stunning watch! How much do these go for typically on the used market?
