Micro-etched coronet on GMT IIC
Having bought a GMT IIC last month, I've just noticed I can't really see the micro-etched crown on it. I haven't inspected one of those that close up looking for it before, but remember on a friends fake (know I shouldn't mention this!), the crown was very easy to see with the naked eye. This is not the case with mine real GMT IIC.
Does the GMT IIC have one, and should I be able to see it without a magnifying glass? Slightly perplexed here... |

its there... you can BARELY see it with the naked eye and only if you have very good eyes,...
best way - small flashlight on the 12 spot, look through a loop at the 6 and you will see it its HARD to see... its easy on fakes cause they are FAKE

I agree it's at the 6 o'clock position normally and very small. On a genuaine Rolex it's made up of lots of small dots. I have found it is best to use an LED torch and a loop and even then it's quite a challenge. Good luck and let us know if you find it.

I must admit I was slightly worried for a second - just didn't realise quite how tiny they are on the genuine article. It's my first Rolex as you can tell! |

I got scared when I couldn't find mine either...TINY dots.
The good news is, you're right, often the fake ones have MORE prominent LEC's because the technology to make those tiny dots must be relatively expensive... |

it is one of these things that takes forever to find it, but once you find it you will always find it later on

Glad you've managed to find it. It's always reassuring! As you say the photos I had seen of it made it look dececptively easy. I spent about 10 mins in the dealers looking for it before I got the light right.

I didn't buy new, but nearly-new from a very well respected dealer here in the UK, one of the biggest in the country for pre-owned. And although the watch felt 100% like it should (having compared to one I was playing with at an AD in Dubai) and was waterproof etc, I got rather nervous when I couldn't find the dots! |

mines just a HAIR off center... but makes it easy to see on a 45 degree angle looking right over the 6 oclock hand
the sub is a nice pic but honestly ive never seen one that low on the crystal, that big, or that easy to see... kinda worries me. im sure its just an optical illusion

Are the micro-etched crowns on all new models now? Been over mine (Exp II, M serial) with a magnifying glass and can't see a thing...

Black dial LEC
White dial LEC The angle of light to the LEC is very important, at some angles almost invisible, other angles the LEC glows

after reading this post, I actually found mine on the 14060M while driving in the bright sunlight...45-degrees and lighting from 12 o'clock helps...and centered on 6 o'clock

Thanks! I was freaking out for a few minutes. I couldn't see it until I put my Surefire LED on it at an angle from the 12 towards the 6. Even then it was tough to make out.

I used a red laser and a loop and still had trouble finding it but, I finally was able to see it.
