Trade 5711 for 5320G?
Been thinking about this for a while now.
I bought my blue 5711 about a year ago at a premium, but since then prices have climbed more than 50%. So the current street value would give me access to a real Patek. I did not buy it with the intention of selling it or making a profit, in fact I thought the value could not go higher and would eventually go down (once the rappers and Instagramers move elsewhere). But... as much as I like the watch, the idea of trading it for a PC is very enticing. I like the 5320 a lot, but worry is a bit on the large side. What do you think?

I wouldn't trade the 5711, but if you do i think it has to be a different reference than a 5320g. I would wait it out till the end of the year as its looking like the 11 is still going up and then make the trade. Gives you time to relook at the nautilus and if your intension is still to get a AC or PC/PCC complication you can go to some greys to look at them and make a choice. Personally, i would go for a 5270G or a 5327G

Only do it if the 5320 is an end game piece as you’ll likely take an L if you move on.
I’d be tempted to go straight to a PCC even if it’s a first series 5270G but I realize that’s a lot more coin. Actually so much more coin it’s not really fair to compare. Just I’ve done this calculation before and don’t want to end up selling an AC or PC towards a PCC as it would cost a bundle.

No chance. You can find the 5320 on display some places. That should say it all. Youll never find a 5711 on display in any of the 400 Patek ADs worldwide.

You're all approaching this from an investment standpoint.
The OP isn't asking about that. I love the Nautilus, but the 5711 is nothing (from a high horology standpoint) when compared against a PC Patek in their Grand Complication line. The only reason you might see a 5320G in the display somewhere is because it isn't a hyped up sports model. |

5711 you will never get again. 5320. It’ll be around. Who knows maybe the 11 will go to $100k+ |

Get the watch you want. The 5711 is on a bubble and when it drops you might not be able to access the watch you want with little to no extra funds.

I too would aim to leverage that into a 5270 if you can, or with further saving. Or maybe a 5170 if you want a complicated dress PP.

Tough to move all the gains into a slow mover, UNLESS you are sure that’s a must have piece for you. Then do it. I’d hold myself.

Can you not buy it separately and keep a hold of 5711? If not, would you miss the 5711 when it's gone? Is it getting a lot of wrist time? If no, go for it and forget about the hype..

I have done that trade a few months ago and sold my white 5711 to fund a 5320 which I loved at first sight!
The 5711 didn't get wrist-time anymore so it was an easy decision for me: If you don't wear it - sell it. Very happy with the upgrade to the 5320 Yes, it will be a nightmare to get the 5711 back and IMO it's more versatile than the 5320. If you have doubts and if you still adore and enjoy wearing your blue 5711 then it might not be a good idea to sell it. The 5320 will still be around in a few months so better take your time and make sure you really like it. Good luck with your decision! IMG_1117.jpg |

I'd do it or move it into a 5270.
These watches are a totally different level imo.

Everyone who's saying 5711 is either a huge lover of the 5711 (I don't blame them), or biased by the fact that the 5711 is a mobile savings account. My support for the 5320G is based on the fact that it's a much more "high horology" timepiece. It's a totally different level. And if you decide to go a bit higher, the 5270 is an even higher level of awesome. |

That's valid. But what does it matter if the 5711 is a fast mover if the OP intends to wear their watch regularly and not flip at the first chance of flipping (in which case the flip should've taken place a while ago because the 5711 has been a fast mover for a while now). :)

Thanks for all the responses, many valid points worth considering as usual (we are a great crowd here in TRF).
I do love my 5711 and wear it often, but I've always wanted a complicated PP and adding one outright is out of the question unfortunately. Maybe I'll just flip the Lange 1 for an AC (5146 or 5396), wear it as a stepping stone to calm the itch and see what happens. Maybe the 5711 value continues to go up and that would give me acess to some of the ther pieces mentioned. Maybe it crashes and goes back to $24k...
