DayDate 40 - CAN'T DECIDE! Which one?

Friends,

Stuck between two models.

DD40 Everose with olive green dial (ref 228235) or Platinum with Ice Blue Roman Numerals (ref 228206). Personally these two are my favorites of the Day Date line up.

Both are available at the AD. Will be worn often (not only special occasions).

Thinking of going for the everose and using the money saved for a steel piece that can be worn daily.

Let me hear your thoughts!

Would love a platinum DD40 but the smooth bezel is a deal breaker so I would choose the RG.

No wrong choice here. I like the idea of RG and a second piece..

BUT if you are set on platinum and are trying to justify 2 pieces vs 1 please don't fall for the trap. I have done this countless times and end up taking a bath and getting the one I wanted in the first place.

Comes down to preference I guess.

Platinum will fly under the radar, as most people would think it’s a SS.

Gold (YG or RG) is instantly recognisable/obvious.

Mmm, tough one. But I'll go platinum on this one. Only thing is it doesn't feel classic enough. But that's all personal preference.

FYI: The platinum watch might not be great as a daily because it is 95% PM and therefore much softer and susceptible to dings vs a 75% gold watch. The 95% is much harder to work with according to my AD. They told me some parts can't even be refinished according to RSC's standards so you have to pay for replacements (bezel, etc).

All that said... my next watch is a platinum DD40 with ice blue dial for my dress watch.

I also wear a gold sub as a daily which some people told me would be too soft, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

Best of luck deciding between two great models.

OP,

How much are they offering the RG Olive for? I was told one was available from my former AD. Just wondering market price

First piece get a YG DD40. That is the quintessential presidential model to get.

Your RG/Plat/WG can wait for a second piece when the times comes. First get the YG!!!

+1

Totally... YG with white dial, fluted bezel and Presidents...

I have a DD36 but the new DD40’s Roman markers are brilliant!

If you really love Platinum, go for it, don't think about money that can go for another piece of SS.

Go all the way to Day-Date 40 in Platinum, with a meteorite, diamond-set dial, diamond-set bezel, it will be very classy.

Before you drop $50,000 US ($70,000 Canadien) ask yourself these questions:
Do I have 3 times more than than what I’m spending in cash to back me up?
If this is my first Rolex (PM DD) what Rolex can I possibly aspire to in the future?
Do I really want to risk getting Carpel Tunnel Syndrome??? Because unless your at least 7.25+ Inches on your wrist size, you’re gonna really feel the TEN OUNCES of Platinum on your wrist..
Lastly, who am I trying to impress???

I’m going RG and get a second piece. What’s the price difference? $20K? You could get a couple of very nice pieces for that.

Rose gold and add a SS piece. I also am not a fan of the smooth bezel on the platinum

Prefer fluted bezel but both are beautiful. You should be able to get a decent discount these days.
