Icon20 Trading in 2 watches for a batman monday!

On monday ill be trading in two watches for my dream watch a 2015 116710BLNR (15k w/box and papers). The two watches i’ll be trading in are 2003 16234 datejust ($3300 no box or papers) and 2016 116710LN ($10,500 box and papers). Personally this is a grail watch i fell in love with the minute i saw photo. Even though realistically the exterior differences are only a partially blue bezel and blue GMT hand. I do have to put $1200 on top of the trade. After this purchase I think i’ll be good on upgrading until i can pickup a DD one day. What do you guys think of the trade + cash?

Can you show pictures of all 3 watches?

Definitely taking a loss on the datejust since i bought from crown and caliber $4691 after tax but really hard for me to wear the 36mm now.

I would definitely do it, I have traded a LN for BLNR before, the BLNR just looks so much better, also agree that I stopped wearing a 36mm Datejust, it's just way to small

Seems like you're giving a heck of a lot away for a change of bezel and gmt hand, especially since the LN is now discontinued.

I'm going to be slightly contrarian here and say that the 116710ln is such an undervalued piece. First ceramic sports rolex ever (I believe), lovely green text and hand that you don't see on the other models. Only wish that it didn't come with PCLs, otherwise its almost perfect from a collection and daily wearing standpoint.

I think $15k is a lot for a 2015 model to be honest. I think for 15k you could get a 2017-2018 model. I think the value that you are getting for your LN is pretty good as I see them selling for that on the grey market. Don’t know about the DJ. I would like to think you could complete this deal without the $1200 extra but if it makes you happy do it. The Batman commands a higher premium so you are not getting washed over.

I prefer the BLNR to the LN by a long shot. And if it’s your grail watch it’s a small price to pay to get it. If we have learned anything from 2020 is to live our lives with no regrets. Wear in good health.

Thank you everyone for your input! I appreciate all your opinions. In a way i’m saddened that it will be damn near impossible to wear a 36mm again because my wrist is on the smaller side too.

Do you want to keep your 36mm or are you saying the size is too small for you now? The DJ41 is 39.5mm so it might be the perfect 2 watch combo with your BLNR. I would go rhodium fluted on jubilee. Those would be the only 2 watches you would ever need.

I think your doing ok on the trade after some thoughts. I own a 2017 BLNR fullset and I personally wouldn’t take your deal so o think you will be very happy. I think you did well on this deal if indeed the 116710 BLNR is your grail. Because I think you could get a 126710 BLNR for the same deal you are offering. I prefer the oyster to the jubilee on this model.

A little off topic but since you seem to have a wealth of knowledge, may I ask you a question? I’m sure it’s one that is easily answered but why on GMT watches is the 24 hour on top when that represents midnight and the 12 on the bottom when that represents noon. All GMT watches are like this. Just thought it might have made more sense to put the 12( noon) on top?

If it's your grail watch then you do what you have to do. Personally I wouldn't trade any 2 watches in for 1 (especially the LN) but that's just me. Enjoy bud

There is no way I would trade two watches for a Batman which I believe is a comic book, or even for a Rolex 116710BLNR when already owning a 116710LN. IMHO paying a load of money for a half blue bezel nothing more as basically its the same GMT you already own.

Hmmm your paying a heap load of money for a half blue bezel.

You already got a 116710LN which is discontinued now and imho 95% the same damn watch. I would not be doing this trade PLUS your adding another $1200 on top?

Naah big pass.

I get it actually.

On the face of it, it is a lot of money for a half blue bezel but, if this is your grail, I assume you are on about the oyster bracelet BLNR.

That thing is not in production. I prefer it to the jubilee, it’s a solid all rounder. You missed the boat on RRP ones now it’s not available any more.

If it’s your grail and you are going to wear it daily, you won’t miss the other two and £850 / $1200 is not that much at all. Relatively.

Each person is different. Personally, I would have a hard time trading a DateJust + $1,200 for half a blue bezel inset and a blue 24-hour hand.

If I have a DJ36 I wouldn't wear why not use it to get something I really want. I don't see any problem with trade, but I suggest you try a do it for less cash. Don't give an impression that you are desperate to get the Batman. The price you are getting it now is on the higher side.

Because the new day starts at midnight and that's the reference point; top of the day, top of the hour.

Trading in 2 watches for a batman monday!

That’s a trade I think you will regret!

I did the same, LN for BLNR, but paid less than £1000 in between I think. It wasn’t much anyway. At that time the difference was like £500 between the two in market value.

Now wanting to buy one of them back it’s the LN that I miss most. My notes at the time were “hate the green hand” so maybe just imagining things.

Anyway, why don’t you just get in line for a 126710BLNR and add that? With what you give up it’s not far from MSRP of that one.
