Explorer 2 40mm to DJ41

Hi guys,

Am rolling this one around.. thinking of changing from the exp2 16570 polar to a DJ41

Favour of Exp2
I like the polar
Charming older model

Dj41
‘Better’ watch intrinsically, bracelet, clasp etc

Really maybe I’m getting twitchy.. but after going through quite the list after 12 years I’m kinda feeling like a dj would almost be stepping out of the game of green eyeing the next sports models one after another. I think I could only really do that with a DJ or DD .. and I don’t need a PM watch I much prefer low key.

I don’t need a date, a gmt or anything.. just a bulletproof 3 hander to tell the time.

OP41s, unless through AD, I think are just too bid relative to the DJ..

I’m going to keep the Vacheron overseas chrono. So will just be that plus either my exp2 or DJ41

Kinda thinking I’d miss the exp2 but then again the dj is a classic and I like that they’re pretty invisible.. not been pumped up by insta etc

This is an example of how twitchy I always was.. it’s not a flex as I never really had more than 3 at any given moment.. I think this is most of them (in order)

16233 Date just tt
14270 Explorer 1
116400 Milgauss black
Aquatimer white dial
116710 Gmtiic
116610lv Submariner LVC
16600 Sea dweller
116400gv Milgauss Gv
16622 Yachtmaster
116520 Daytona Steel
Vacheron Overseas Chrono
116600 SeaDweller 4000 ceramic
16622 Yachtmaster steel/platinum
1266519 meteorite
14060 Sub no date
16570 Explorer 2 polar
126300 Datejust 41??

I liked them all for different reasons at different times but the bug was too bad. Hence the possible feeling to “step out” as such

Anyone else been on the same thought train?

Cheers

I don't think you can ever go wrong with the classic DJ. A great watch and can be configured with bracelet/bezel/dial to match your tastes and preferences. I would not get rid of the Explorer II Polar just yet and see if you can have both in the collection for a minute. Get through the honeymoon phase with the DJ and see if it sticks. If so, then decide if you want to move the Explorer. If it does not work as well as you would like then the DJ goes and you still have your Explorer. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Oh I should add that the alternative to the DJ41 would have been the new Santos in large.. which would be REALLY leaving the rlx game. But even as a great all rounder I don’t think they would be as bulletproof and the lack of screw down bugs me and the Mrs says I’m not the Cartier type whatever that means. Omega I was open to but nothing tickles me.

Yea I like the idea of them but my VC is on leather and I’m looking for a bulletproof on bracelet for a daily / all rounder

Imagine if they did a ‘fine’ integrated bracelet Watch .. like a bit more delicate.. that would spin a few people

I think if it’s a one and only 6 digits and done.

The 12 series dj will feel world apart from 16 exp, let alone the new models.

So what are you happiest with? Can’t have or both ways unless you want to pay top dollar?

Yea I think the plan may be to get the dj41 then give it a while and strip back to one and as you said a 6digit would probably be it but cover myself and try alongside

I currently have the 41 jubilee black but I feel like I can't wear it every day, its too flashy, although its SS and dome bezel.

the best combo was DJ41 oyster, black dial. It went with everything and looked great!

I own both a 5 digit Sub date and a brand new Datejust. The feel of the DJ just oozes quality. It has a certain weight to it and it just feels premium in the hand. However, for whatever reason I just find the 5 digit sub is my ultimate. Maybe it’s because it’s a Sub I’m not sure. But it’s always my go to and the watch I find myself staring at most. It just has more character about it, and I find the same to be true of 5 digit watches.

Where the 6 digits beat the 5 digits in quality, they cannot compete on the character scale. 5 digits always have more soul

You’ve certainly tries a lot of different watches which leads me to believe the DJ won’t stick either.

I’d add it but won’t trade if at all possible
