Does your receipt from a watch bought from an AD have the

I have been watching the usual YouTube watch channels, and it seems to come up quite often that they will give advice to customers and the most common one is that the watch serial number should be on the receipt. Is that just something gray dealers should do, or, for everyone that bought their watch new from an AD, should the receipt from buying a new watch have the serial number on it too? I checked all of mine, all bought from the same AD, but none of them have the serial number of the purchased watch on them.

Should I contact them and ask? I don't want to sound stupid if I do call, lol.

Thanks in advance!

Three purchases from 2 different AD's. All 3 have the serial number on the sales invoice. In addition, the first AD, where I bought my first 2, also gave me an appraisal.

Yep, serial number, photo and a appraisal along with the receipt each time I purchased a Rolex or Omega from my AD when I leave the store.

Yes, the serial # is always on the receipt and when I buy preowned I always ask them to include the serial on the receipt.

I'd rather not throw that name out there yet until I actually talk to them, I just wanted to know what's common practice with AD's vs Gray dealers.

Thanks for all the replies.

So, what negative effect do you see for me in the future by not having the serial numbers on my receipts, there's a written description for each watch, basically saying what kind of bezel, dial, etc... on each receipt, it also has some internal purchase number with a bar code and the name of the sales person.

Should I call them and ask for re-prints of the receipts with the serial numbers written into the description? Or maybe take a picture of the receipt together with the hang tag and the warranty card making sure that the serial number on both is clearly visible? What would you do?

One of my ADs includes serial numbers on the invoices and the other one doesn’t.

Why does it matter after the fact? I wouldn’t bother to be honest. You can always ask out of curiosity, but I wouldn’t ask them to re-invoice for a watch you’ve had for months/year.

If you ever sell the watch, the secondary dealer won’t care about an invoice.

It's just something I noticed while watching the Videos, but yeah, I guess it's much important to ask for that when buying from a Gray dealer than from an AD, just in case it was a stolen watch. I guess for my own piece of mind I will take a pic as mentioned above.

Hope you're still enjoying little Miss RG Olive!

My AD puts the serial number on the invoice. Goes without saying, but also on the appraisal that accompanies a receipt.

If going grey, in 99% of instances you would never see the original receipt, so it’s a moot point. I’d ask for an appraisal with serial number if that’s the spirit of what you’re looking for.

Reputation of grey seller, condition of the watch, warranty card then matters - in that order. “Complete set” with Rolex these days is a moving target as I am seeing the trend become no white hang tag (with unique serial number), no bezel protector, and certainly no stickers becoming the new normal.

All the Rolex / Tudor watches I've ever purchased have the serial number on the receipt.
Especially post April 2021, with the introduction of Rolex's new inventory and invoicing system, it's not just the serial number and description on the receipt but everything else included in the package, i.e. manuals, card holder etc. And every receipt has a QR code on it for verification purposes.
Now, I have a theory why an AD would skip the serial but this would be venturing in the conspiracy theory spectrum and would also raise questions as to the legality of said receipt...

I think there's a must that the serial number be printed on the receipt in order to protect you should you found any problems on the watch afterwards.

Without the serial number on the receipt, how can you prove the watch with that s/n comes from the store you bought it from? You'd have to rely on the store themselves. Also, for insurance purposes, you need the s/n on the receipt, unless you get a separate appraisal.

Most all YouTube today is nothing more than clickbait, when buying new the most important bit is the warranty card, and its been swiped by a official AD and not a receipt with or without the watch serial.

Serial number is on the warranty card and the white hang tag. That is more than enough.

Same for me. Going all the way back to 1987, no serial numbers on any of the Rolex receipts, and from several Rolex dealers. This also applies to ALL my watches that are non-Rolex.
