Bank confirmation scam in the UK

Just back from meeting someone who was after buying a watch. He did a bank transfer to my a/c and he showed me the confirmation notice on his phone. I checked my a/c and no money appeared so i refused to release the watch til was confirmed in my a/c.

He tried to reassure me the money would come through, i still refused to release the watch. On seeing after an hour no transfer had taken place we parted company.

People be aware of this scam and stay safe.

You was lucky, but even if the transfer had arrived it can be recalled by the sender before close of business. So you could see a transfer credited, hand over the watch or goods, then see the payment vanish. One should always wait until banking hours have ended and preferably not release the goods until the next day.

I've had a few legit EMT transactions take hours to go through. Canada.

Not so in the UK according to my Bank. The sender has to open a ‘case’ stating why the money should be returned.

One here in Australia, is a 'future' transaction, for the next day. They'll do it all in front of you then cancel the transaction as they walk away.

I met him in the pub not at home i think he planned it to arrive close to closing time, so as to use the timescale to pressure me into releasing the watch. I have since reported the incident to the police. I was quite sneaky i went out for a smoke with him left the watch behind the bar. I pretended to be checking my a/c and took a pic of his license plate. Whether the police do anything will have to wait and see.

Not in the NL either. Once in your bank its yours.
Transferring money in online banking takes only a few seconds. No need to wait an hour on funds you know will not come.

Regardless, exactly these kind of things are the reason I never do business with private persons and certainly no watch deals.

Don’t you then at least have there name and possibly address so you can get them for grand larceny????? If you were in a bank with them in person of course
