What’s coming from Longines?
Looks like Longines will be releasing a new GMT with a blue bezel! Here’s a few screen grabs from their IG page. Was planning on picking up a Hydro Conquest but will have to wait to see what this is.

Thus far it looks really, really good. Hard to complain about bang for the buck from Longines these days.

I got my hands on a catalogue of their 2022 pieces and their new chrono looks fantastic and it's much thinner than the offerings from similar priced brands.

No pics? Geez what kind of place do think this is? The people demand pics, or there will be an uprising.

Historically, I was never sure about Longines. The Hydroconquest always seemed to lack that special “chic” to me, even though it’s a decent watch and excellent value.
When I first saw the re issue “Greenlander” I changed my mind, and bought one same day. Been an awesome watch, and a reminder to keep an eye on Longines.. Trouble is, they tend to sneak things out, a bit under the radar, and if you’re not paying attention a limited edition has been and gone before you’ve even seen it. Just had a look at the website and saw this (and a lot of other limited edition colours) that I had no idea even existed. If the upcoming Spirit GMT is as good as I know Longines are capable of producing, I think it could be awesome! Good spot by the O.P. Isn’t it nice to be able to anticipate a watch release, with the knowledge that if you like it, you can actually buy it! |

Here it is. Logines Spirit Zulutime.
I like the colors and design but am a little turned off by the stars and “Zulu time” on the dial. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Love it!
Adjustable local hand, chronometer-certified, 72-hour power reserve, screw down crown, 100 m of water resistance, reasonably sized case, quick change strap, around $3k, good-looking… this piece will be a massive hit for Longines! Hopefully Tudor will release a BB 58 GMT so we can watch these pieces duke it out |

A very attractive budget-range GMT. A bit too big and thick for me personally, but it's tempting.
The star of the show is the strap. The strap is very attractive and has a nice innovation with micro-adjustment on the deployant. Absolutely brilliant. Wish other brands (Cough *GS*) understood how to incorporate this feature into their product offerings. The Longines strap/deployant seems like a good universal solution for any 22mm lug-width watch, good aftermarket solution to GS.

Well, they haven’t made exactly the watch I would have done, but they have very much “done their own thing”, and I think for that are to be commended.
Size and thickness - as expected. A little less obtrusive would have been better, but more wearable than the Black Bay GMT I think. Not sure about the cream / faded look with the green bezel, but the black and the blue models are looking superb from where I am. Like the orange / blue GMT hand too. Don’t like the stars, but there you go. Liking the ceramic bezel. Looks very nicely done, especially for the price. Loving the “quick change” bracelet and strap. Is that a first? Either way, it’s very nicely done. Bracelet looks nicer than the “rivet” bracelet Tudor insist on supplying. The winning feature for me is that it’s the 12 hour hand that is quick adjustable. I know this isn’t big news for Rolex / Tudor owners, but it’s the way it should work. Most ETA derived movements have a quick set 24 hour hand, which is not the way you want it. By definition, the GMT hand stays set to GMT, and local time is set on the 12 hour hand. Overall, I think they’ve put a lot of work into this, and I like it! |

Love that blue Spirit ZuluTime. The stars don't bother me a bit. In-house chronometer movement, true GMT, 70 hour power reserve, integrated quick change bracelet/ strap, and all for $3K?

Watched Teddy with the Longines designer today on YouTube. Some very nice things coming from Longines. The new L888.5 silicon equipped 70 hour movement is in the last 2 HydroConquest I received last month. Extremely accurate. 0 to +1 spd. And there not even COSC.
There coming along nicely I think.

Oh man I love the blue one. Stars look fine to me. 42mm is the perfect size IMO, and I don't think 14mm is overly thick. A lot to like with this release.

It’s a military term, used by NATO, but I think standard in British and American forces before that.
The world is divided into time zones. They anticipated fighting in Europe, so that is “A”, and proceed eastbound through “B”, “C” etc until you get all the way to “Z”. (“J” is omitted, due to confusion with “I”) If you’re thinking that’s 25 zones, not 24, you’re right. There are both +12 and -12 zones to account for countries in the same area being one or other side of the date line! “A” is GMT plus one, “B” GMT plus two and so on. GMT is thus “Z” or “Zulu” in NATO parlance! |

Rumor has it the date will actually cycle to the following date without incident.
Sorry couldn’t resist. In all seriousness. Very solid offering and fills a gap for which the industry has been clamoring. One the “newness” settles , these will be offered with a minimum of 10% discount all day long. This is a lot of watch for under 3k. This is about the same price point of many other brands that use caller GMT SW300 and base ETA movements with ~40 hours of power reserve (think B&R, Oris, Bremont). This is really going to compete with the BBGMT. I don’t think you can go wrong with either, and if Tudor doesn’t offer anything fresh in a GMT at W and W, I just may order one of these Longines. |

Longines is, by far, my favorite value brand, as they usually offer superb design, great quality, solid and reliable movements, and excellent pricing. The Spirit line is very nice and I like these GMTs, although I'm not a fan of the stars, which would, sadly, stop me from buying one. I personally like the Tudor GMT better but the lower price and reliable date wheel could steer one in Longines' direction.

Perhaps I am in the minority, but I find this rather boring. There is literally zero imagination in this collection. Mainstream watch industry is running out of steam fast.

Got to see the Zulu Time yesterday.
Great looking watch and the micro adjustment on the deployment is fantastic. Green bezel ordered and should be with me next month. |

In UTC or GMT time is referenced as "zero" time. To make communications clearer over a radio " zero" or "Z" in the military is referred to as "ZULU" in the phenolic alphabet. Just as "A" is Alpha, " B" is Bravo etc.
