Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris
Although I have been considering this purchase for many moons I am still interested in learning more about Jaeger-LeCoultre. I would love to hear opinions from other owners or those with knowledge.
My plan is to purchase a Polaris variant and keep it to enjoy and wear. I have no plans to sell although at the same time I am not a fan of purchasing items which lose 50% of their value the moment you take ownership. To me, this simply looks like a nice watch, from an interesting company, going for a slightly elevate price. These are not in short supply either so I already know there is just average demand for them. Your thoughts? |

I would never pay over for a JLC. As you mentioned, they take quite a hit.
I own a Reverso and I like it for what it is and picked it up at a heavy discount. At full price, I likely would never pick one up. It was a target of opportunity. I do have a bias, as I lean more towards sports models. No issues with quality after 5 years. It is quite a difference in wear experience. It literally fits perfect on my wrist and doesn’t move. I love JLC and they are beautiful. I plan to get one after I finally acquire the Rolex pieces I like.
I like the Master Control Calendar and the Geographic. As you said, they lose quite a bit after purchase, so for me the decision is obvious and quite simple. I'm going to purchase gently pre-owned, just like I buy my cars, and let the first buyer take all of the depreciation hit. It's only a watch and to save a few grand I don't need to be the first guy to wear it. Just my humble opinion. I also really like the Atmos clocks. I would love to get one of those someday. I like them and after some research into the Polaris Mariner I found reports of QC issues.

Tomorrow I will visit a nearby AD to see one in person and possibly bring it home.

careful with JLC. It’s part of Richemont and therefore in the hands of greedy French executives instead of creative watchmakers. QC, After service and just general experience has taken a plunge.

Woke up early, enjoyed a fine breakfast, drive to the first AD and received an offer I was unable to refuse. This is an amazingly beautiful watch and looks even better in person. My frustration with waiting, waiting, and waiting, for another Rolex has forced me to consider other watches. To be perfectly honest, I am really happy I was kicked out of the Rolex box and generally mistreated.
Very nice short video of Polaris Chronometer |

Congrats. That’s a great watch. I have the black dial version on a strap. It gets more wear than my Rolex pieces.

Love my Polaris. Great watch with a great history. Useful alarm complication is not something you see every day.

Very nice pick up. JLC is one of the best values out there. Certainly a consideration for my next purchase.
