This is the Rolex Datejust reference 16238. The Datejust is Rolex’s staple, their best selling and most famous dress model in the Rolex lineup. The Datejust was originally released in 1945 as the first automatic watch with a date function. First released in 1990, the 16238 had a production period of about 10 years until 2000 before a new case was introduced, ending the era of the five-digit references. This particular piece is also a K serial, dating it to 2000, which is the final year of production for this reference.

Through the years, the Datejust has evolved greatly with all sorts of different configurations. This particular variant is known as the Onyx because of the onyx stone dial material that is utilised for the dial, which is known for its intense and shimmering black colour. This particular onyx dial also has factory-set diamond indices on the 6 and 9 as a complement to the fully jet black onyx dial.

Stone dials have grown in popularity in recent years, with pristine examples being fairly hard to come by given that the stones stones are subject to wear and tear over time. These stone dials have proven to be very popular and desirable due to the layer of depth and variance that it adds to the already classic Rolex Datejust.

Condition
This Rolex Datejust 16238 is in very good pre-owned condition. Polish history is unknown but the case remains strong with thick and even lugs. The crystal has no flaws and there are some signs of wear on the caseback. The factory onyx dial is clean and the bracelet has 4 removable links. It comes with a 2021 Rolex service card and the watch is in full working order.
