Marmite anyone?

I can think of no issue that puts a greater strain on Anglo-American relations than Marmite! I grew up in England living on the stuff and love it. My missus, American, is so averse, that I have to hide it from her view as if it were a collection of erotic videos.
If you are even slightly intrigued by Smilin' Bob and his Enzite diet, I would suggest you first try Marmite! I know our Aussie friends have their own 'knock off' of this elixir, but as with a fake Rolex, you can't beat the real thing.

What are your views about and experience of Marmite? Please keep it clean.

It is a dark brown spread, consistency of packing engine grease, that is I believe a by product of the brewing industry. It's a bit salty but excellent spread thinly on buttered or non buttered toast. You can use it with hot water to make a savoury beverage. Try it!

Its spread on bread. You either love it or hate it no middle way. I am the only one in my family of five who loathes it. In Australia they have a similar product called Vegemite

It sounds like it would be bad for you!! Does it taste good and do they sell it in a regular grocery store?

You need to keep quiet about it Peter, we don't want a shortage of it back here. remember "ignorance is bliss". They'll never miss what they've never had!

One of Marmite's uses is for hair restoration!

First spread thinly on the bald spot [clean head thoroughly prior to doing this], then have up to five virtuous maidens lick it off. The maiden requirement makes this treatment very rare in some parts of the word! Note- they must be unpaid and doing it of there own free will!

I don't think it works! It hasn't helped JJ but he keeps coming back for more treatments!!

Is it really safe to eat? Is this suppose to be like a lard sandwich?

Have you tried the ltd editions ones?, this is the latest, 'Marstons' also brewed in Burton-on-trent. They've also done guinness and champagne versions.

Also don't like Bovril or bread and dripping.

See, now, Vegemite I've heard of. Either way I may have to look for it (Marmite too) and give it a whirl.

It's actually good for you. Rich in vitamin B and very low fat. I love the stuff spread on thick sliced toast or medium sliced sandwiches (Warburtons bread only)

Hmm... I've had Vegemite. Remember the Australian band "Men at Work"? Well, they have a song that references Vegemite. Being the curious kid that I was, I asked my aunt living in Australia about it, and she sent me a bottle.

It was different, to say the least. It smelled like wet yeast!
I honestly don't recall if I liked it or not, but that was about 20 years ago.
