Your not popular opinions.
Any opinions you have about watches which you’re in the minority on but can’t understand why more don’t think your way? Just a bit of fun to get a non second hand prices debate going.
I have a few: 1) having a watch with over 150m wr on a leather strap is stupid. AP Offshores etc I never understand on leather 2) Tudor Black bay fifty eight for daily wear is superior to a Rolex. 3) Royal Oak 37mm is actually the best size they offer, most people have wrists too small for the 41mm 4) Rolex should scrap the Cellini line, at that price point too many better dress watch competitors. What’s yours?

Putting protective film on new watch. Results vary. Depends on many factor including how well the film was applied.

It seems like most of my opinions here are unpopular

A few:
1. AP should be removed from the Holy Trinity and replaced with JLC. 2. The Speedmaster is better than the Daytona. 3. Rolex two tone watches are fantastic. 4. 36mm remains the classic size for a men’s watch. 5. Corollary to #4: Watch size doesn’t mean much and a good collection can and should have pieces ranging from 34mm to 44m. 6. Dress watches are underrated; sports watches are overrated. I probably have some more, but these are the biggies that come to mind. |

One I just can't understand why people do it. That is paying over MSRP for a watch. Most are slightly to extremely overpriced to begin with.

- Supercase is an unnecessary amount of additional metal
- Fluted bezel is too flashy |

Good thread!
1. Grand Seiko is NOT the value some people claim it is (especially lately). 2. Dates are a way overused and usually unnecessary complication. 3. 5K+ watches with base off the shelf movements (SW200) is theft. (I'm looking at you IWC, Bremont, B&R, and Breitling) 4. A GMT without a jumping hour isn't a GMT 5. James Bond isn't real |

A fluted and jubilee DJ 41 is too gaudy.
The Sub has become a cliche for the unimaginative. |

Same. If you suggested removing VC in favor of JLC, I could better understand the logic: Same conglomerate, former users movements from the latter, give credit where it’s due. Not sure I’d agree, but I’d better understand the rationale.

The modern Daytona is an ugly watch and one of the worst looking and performing chronos on the market.
36mm day date in yellow gold champagne is Rolex. Rolex clutters their dials with unnecessary text, especially the submariner. |

Here are mine:
The modularity of five-digit Rolexes was part of the charm. D!(k measuring amongst manufacturers is pointless, put the PR/WR R&D funds elsewhere. Complexity is great when it works right, simplicity is better when it doesn’t (talking claps here). There’s a vast difference between “collecting” and “accumulating” which one should understand before buying a bunch of watches. |

Also, I think JLC is very underrated. Unlike the Holy Trinity, they have models that start sub-10k, but they should not be penalized for that—especially since their true high end pieces are of a level that is virtually untouchable by anyone else. I acknowledge that this is a contrarian opinion, but I’m like that. |

Speedmaster is superior to Daytona.
Take the Rolex crown off a Daytona and it looks like a fairly average chrono. The Speedmaster is unique, handsome and historically significant |

The OP41 has way too much dial space and it’s proportions are cartoonish.

The BLRO is massively overrated. Sold mine after a couple of years. Much prefer the 16710.
Also never warmed to the ceramic steel Daytonas. |

You should send your watch in every 2 years to do an oil change and overhaul.

A $20 watch can be just as appealing as an $20,000 watch.
