Watch Advertising-Question

Did a search but didn't come up with any thing, so I'm sorry in advance if this has been addressed - possibly ad nauseum.
Can any one answer why all watch ads display their watches at the 10:10/10:12 hour and minute positions? Is their some kind of rule or agreement btw the different brands?

yeah its funny but it is true. I would guess that it might be something to do with keeping, the date, brand on the dial, chrono counters etc etc mostly visible on the dial without the hands covering them, but thats just my thoughts

Excellent article Leo

I agree, 10:08:42 with the date set to 28 shows the dial nicely :-).

Even Seiko did this promoting digital watches back in the 80's with the same time set

Yep... It's only done for appearance..

..............And I think the guy who thought this up should be shot...

Now, any time you take a photo, there is always somebody who wants to compare the shot to the "traditional" 10:10 setting.. So, if you ever have a photo competing for a spot on some forum someplace.... there are those who will mark it down because it "does not conform"...

Thanks, Leo. This has been eating at me for a few days now.
Though I must admit I've been lazy at researching the topic, but I knew a TRF member would probally have the answer lickety split.
