Rolex Sports in Sauna/Steam Room - Warranty?

Hi,

I have recently moved gyms which I now go to on my way home from work, I previously used to go home first where I would leave my Sub.

I don’t like the idea of leaving the watch in my car or in the gym lockers so I am currently wearing it in the gym and after in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.

Has anyone experienced issues with gaskets etc after frequent exposure to the sauna or steam room?

If any issues arose from the gaskets perishing would the watch be covered under the Rolex 5 year warranty?

No, never had an issue. Not even with my much cheaper watches.

The recommendation is to have gaskets checked yearly. It's rather simple. They just run a pressure test.

If there is damage due to water entering the case, it will not be covered under the warranty.

Thanks for the response, have you worn your watches in there regularly over a long period of time?

That seems strange to me, I would have thought the 5 years would have covered the gaskets to last that period of time as well.

Where do you take your watches to get pressure tested?

Simple answer if you are afraid your Rolex could get damaged don't wear it to place of work or gym.

That was the conclusion I was coming to but hoped it wouldn’t.

I was hoping for some definite reassurance it would be fine

If your skin can take it, a Rolex can, too

Sauna, hot tubs, ocean (salt water) for years and no problems with any Rolex for me. Ever.

If you are afraid to wear a watch, you should sell it a make some money. Save yourself the worry, but you really don’t need to worry.

I’m trying to wear mine in any and all conditions. I enjoy testing the durability of items. So far it hasn’t skipped a beat. The best part of these watches are the toughness and durability, your guys are thinking too hard about some of these questions.

The fluoroelastomers (Viton and others) used in the seals and gaskets in modern watches, including Rolex, are unaffected by anything your body could stand. At the same time, it’s a good idea to have your watches pressure tested every couple of years after the warranty period has expired because any seal can deteriorate over time.

Assuming you're speaking to after the warranty is up, as I'd expect the watch/seals to be covered during warranty if it failed a pressure test?

I wouldn't see any point pressure testing it after the warranty is up because if it fails the test and damages the watch, then you're on the hook for it anyway...pointless test in that case and just another way to possibly cost yourself a lot of money IMO; it's either going to fail in a forced and unnecessary pressure test, or it's going to fail in normal use...you'll be paying either way so may as well just wait for it to fail under normal use instead of almost looking for it to fail by testing it.

The Daytona is an oyster, just wear it everywhere. Swim with it, dive with it, wearing in the sauna or hot tub.

I would not take a watch in a hot sauna. It is full of chemicals none of which are good the watch or it's metal. It is hot which makes the seals expand.

This is inspiring. I've been hesitant to wear any watch in a sauna since I had a Sinn dive watch get moisture inside from what was likely wearing it in a sauna.

As such, when going in the sauna if I'm not able to leave the watch someplace safe I'll take the watch (Rolex or other) and wrap it in a wet hand towel that generally insulates it from the 190-210 degree heat.

Separately I have no issue wearing a Rolex in a hot tub, at 104 degrees it's not that different than a warm summer day.

I’m doing this with every sports watch that I have. No meters if it is Rolex, Omega or any thing else.

I’ve never worried about my steel Rolex in any situation. But there was that thread a couple years ago where the guy’s YG/SS Datejust literally changed colors from being in a hot tub. Diagnosis was it was the chemicals not the heat that stained it. I’m pretty sure Rolex was able to restore it and didn’t charge him.

You buy a Rolex precisely because of its durability and your ability to do things out in the world with it.

If you believe a watch is too delicate to wear, get an Apple Watch and be done.
