Is a Golden/Perfect Crown a thing?

Seems pretty odd for the Rolex Crown to line up perfectly straight and vertical on the side of the watch. I have seen this on a few pieces, but surprised this isn't a subtle detail collectors or enthusiasts look for.

It’s just a matter of odds, say 12 basic visual positions with 60 more precise, so 1 in 60 odds I’m guessing.

I'd say it's more of an advertising thing and collectors don't care because it won't come back like that after service.

It’s a nonsense. As others have noted, given the nature of gaskets, it will not and cannot endure.

Cannot understand why make no difference if crown is upright or downside up perhaps they should get rid of the crown emblem then everyone's would line up somewhere. The only watch where the crown is always upright is on the skydweller but that as a special crown line up mechanism. All the others if they did line up over the years of wearing the seal in the crown head could wear so then it would not line up upright.

Two out of two Rolexes I own have crowns that line up.

Daytona and DJ41.

My AD offered me a SS Daytona a year before when I bought mine and I declined it because the crown was off about 5 degrees from true north when sealed. I am waiting on a BLNR now and will do the same if the crown isn’t perfect.

I have very finely attuned wrists and a misaligned crown throws my balance off.

Not acceptable.

If the gasket wears down over time and my watch is still in warranty I will make sure they correct it back to perfect alignment too.

Why can’t they use the SkyD crown mechanism for other watches? I mean a Rolex is pretty costly these days so having some expectation isn’t wrong I feel.

Although not a fan of any modern day Daytona, sorry just cannot believe you turned one down at retail because the winding crown was not upright.

Enthusiasts can obsess over all sorts of odd details, but I don't believe that there is a collector group that considers this a must-have. This isn't something that has been mentioned except on Forums within the past few years.

I’m not sure why “how the coronet sits on the winding crown” would bother anyone. It does not bother me, in the slightest. Truthfully, I’ve never noticed.

You know you don’t have to twist it at max torque? Stop turning when it’s aligned and you’ll have your golden crown. On double or triple lock, it’s not going to change anything to your watch that doesn’t even see the shower.

I have had a few with perfect crown alignment. What I care about more is where the crown is at finger tip tight on every watch I own. That way I can visually check before entering the water if it’s indexed correctly. “Set bezel, check crown”……..Old habits.

It has never occurred to me to check for crown alignment on any Rolex in my twenty-seven years of Rolex ownership. I can not see it when wearing it. I do not care.

lol. I never would have thought to ever check for this if I hadn’t read about it on TRF years ago. I then checked every new watch I bought a couple years - none reached perfect status. Now I can’t even bother to check because it’s absolutely silly and irrelevant.

I don’t mind about an upside crown, so long as the crown on the dial is also upside down to ensure they match.
