I am curious why so many Rolexes that are sold privately and even by grey dealers don't have boxes and papers, missing links, missing hangtags, and other items that are included when buying at the AD. I can understand vintage pieces, but even modern ones have so many missing items.

Is it worth buying a modern rolex or other higher brands without these items?

Well up until a few years ago the norm was to throw that stuff out. I bought one in 2016? Ish. And threw out the box and papers. And I have six and three-quarter inch wrists. So I always take out links. I almost always lose them. I try really hard not to, but…

Missing links would be so they could sell them separately for a few extra bucks.

Some people just don’t pay that much attention to those details. Maybe they don’t consider their watch as currency to be redeemed later, maybe they buy their watch intending to keep it forever, maybe they don’t plan ahead, maybe they just don’t care or consider packaging to be trash. I care but maybe I’m the one that’s peculiar.

With my large collection, keeping everything is a pain, but, of course, I do. So, I have all the boxes, with all the paraphernalia stored in my spare bedroom. I bought tiny zip lock bags for links and pins/ screws. My husband announced, just this morning, that his son and family are visiting next month, and staying here, so I need to find another place to store 100 box sets. Doh!

They should be able to sleep around the boxes and bits. If not, then rent a RV and they can sleep in there :)

Hey Kat,
I think you need to find a local hotel for the visitors and leave your boxes and papers in their place ;)
