Rolex Datejust 16014 1983

Hi, I bought this Rolex Datejust 16014 from 1983 over the weekend for approximately $1500 USD. Whats happening with five digit datejusts, the prices seem to be yo-yoing at the moment. Has anyone here bought one recently? If so, how much did it set you back?

I think thats a total bargain and a great find. $1500 for a full set there. Well done indeed.

Get it off to Rolliworks for a bit of TLC. will come back like new

It’s nice to see the s/n & clasp code point to same period - and hope the movement inside isn’t too worn. In that condition and at the price it is a fair deal on both sides.

Did this happen to come from the original owner? I presume a Hong Kong distributor number is on the warranty paper...

It has led a useful life judging by the expected signs of wear. Of course a 35 year old bracelet is going to need some work to be tight again.

If this is slated to be refurbished and then sold, you could be right at breakeven when you replace the necessary parts, overhaul the movement and refurbish the bracelet.

A service costs around $400USD for me. Bracelet is fine, minimal stretch, just lots of grime which makes the links look like they are far apart. Funnily enough its keeping great time, its lost 5 seconds in 24 hours. No intention on flipping this anyway, when a watch like this lands on your lap flipping is the last thing on my mind. Keeping this one :)

Great find. Just needs some TLC to get it back to like new. Sounds like the insides are in decent shape. Any idea when it had it's last service? I really like SS DJ. It has a great look and once it's been lightly polished, you'll love it.

It looks like it was last serviced in 2013 (i think) by Rolex (caseback engraved with 'RWA' (rolex watches australia) and I think it says '13). Full 22 link bracelet. The plexi is cracked, but I can swap that over myself. Gaskets look ok. I know what some people here saying though, I have picked up some datejusts that are absolutely toasted. This one looks ok though.

Great find! I too need new plexi on my 16013 as well. Can you help me where I can get a good plexi? I have been searching for some time but I am not too sure if I should get one from ebay.

Thanks in advance and congrats again on a beautiful piece! :)

Thank you! I must confess, I bought a cheap one off ebay a while ago. I am sure they are still available. This will just tide me over until I take it to Rolex for a service when required, they can fit an authentic plexi.

I think you just got a great deal. In general, prices seem to be gradually rising, not yoyoing. I know you're going to keep it, but if you wanted to flip it, you could just clean it up with a new crystal and double your money, IMO.

Glad you are keeping and price is like 2012 good! These days the bracelet and end links are ~500 and you found a full kit, great pick up!

Wow, thats great news. I'm not sure what happened with this listing. The seller put it up for a buy it now with offers and it sold for double what I would eventually pay for it. The buyer didnt pay and the seller I presume just wanted it gone, so it was back up as a buy it now for half price and I guess it was just a case of good timing. Got to say, I am pretty happy the bracelet matches up with the watch.

Cleaned up with new plexi, and assuming everything else is good, I think that's a $4k full set. Nice fat case!

What a great deal. Congrats!
