Yankee Stadium Pics

Here are some pics I took yesterday. I was lucky enough to get down to field level during warm-ups prior to the game.

This Jorge Posada, the starting catcher in the center, with Sal Fasano, his back up to his left. The guy in the suit behind them is Former pitcher Jim Kaat. He 's now TV announcer for the team.

To the left is newly acquired Right Fielder Bobby Abreu and Melky Cabrera warming up playing catch

Here is the team captain Derek Jeter

Johnny Damon. A fan favorite and great pick up. Especially since he was taken away from the hated Red Sox.

I know this pic isn't the best but next to Lou Gehrig the guy in it is probably the best first baseman in team history. Don Mattingly. Otherwise known as Donnie Baseball or The Hitman during his playing days. He's been retired for 11 years now but recently came back on board as the team's batting coach.

Here's the family

Me and the Mrs

The boys had a sign made

Here's a shot one of the boys took from about 350' away using just a point and shoot.

And of course, the wrist shot

Thanks for looking everyone

Very nice. I was there once a long time ago when I lived in NJ. That's when they still had the monuments on the playing field in the outfield.

Actually I made the boys sign for you, well the bottom "O" anyway. You're just about the right height to fit in there.

Now there behind the fence, in what's called "Monument Park" There's a huge line to get in there and it closes 45 min prior to game time.

The good thing about Yankee Stadium is the field is the exact same field that Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle, etc have all played on. The bad thing is and it kills me to say this, the place is a toilet. There's so much history there, you think the city would keep up on it better than they do. It's a shame.

Take for instance the last two stadiums I've been to. Jacobs Field in Cleveland, and Dolphin Stadium in Fla, home of the Marlins. Jacobs field is a beautiful, clean place, with not a bad seat in the house. Very fan-friendly.
Dolphin Stadium is a newer place also, very clean and a good place to see a game also. Although at this particular stadium, I think it's better to see a football game than baseball. Just MHO.

There's supposed to be a new Yankee Stadium completed in '08-'09 I think. It needs it. It'll be sad to see the field go, but after undergoing a major renovation in '74-75, I don't think it would do it justice again. They need to keep up with the other teams opening up new stadiums. They average 50,000 + a game, so it's not an attendance issue, just a sanitary one.

Thanks pandrew Coming from a Red Sox fan, that's a true compliment. I'm very happy with Johnny D. Not only is he a good ballplayer, he's a class act as a person.

He did serve you well. Remember the grand slam he hit in the upper deck in game 7 of the ALCS in 2004?
