Polish Experts, Please Help

Clasp not a concern. Desk diving. Can see polishing it. Many do that.

Looks good man. This unpolished thing is a bit silly because lightly polished lightly worn is better than worn to hell but strictly UNPOLISHED yahoo.

To me would like to see the lug holes .. But since I can't I would have to say yes but a very light polish would not be a deal breaker for me.

Got any photos under better lighting? These aren't the best to make a solid call.

Lug holes look sharp and not cratered in, so the sides might be original. Lug tops are hard to call due to lighting. The coronet on the clasp could be smudged or be catching strange lighting.

Part of me thinks it only looks bad due to the photos but I'll reserve final judgment after seeing photos not shot with a potato.

Not a Polish expert but grew up in Chicago so I know several poles. Hard to say if Polish, German, even could be Czech.

Was just comparing your pics to my 1996 DJ that I bought new and has never been polished, and I agree with others that the case looks a little soft around the lugs compared to mine. I would guess it has been polished. Beautiful though.

Question, when did they change from lug holes to no lug holes? My 96 has no lug holes.

The fluted bezel also looks soft. But hard to tell if it’s from polishing or just daily wear. If the price is good I’d buy it. Even if it was polished at one point, they didn’t go ham on it so the watch still looks good.

I think all will agree this watch looks rather good for its age. This is actually my dad’s watch, that he has worn daily since having purchased it back around 95/96. He takes it everywhere, never takes it off other than to sleep and even gardens with it on.

This watch has actually been serviced by RUSA 4 times, each time having been polished as part of their service. What I hope this exercise illustrates, as at least it does to me, is that it looks comparable or yet better than like what a 25 year old, daily beater watch should look. Furthermore, it puts a bit of a dent in the don’t polish myth as it has been polished four times and still looks great. It looks like what it should........a well worn watch that still maintains its looks and has lived a hell of a lifetime, as a great watch should...........Not an investment.

Photos not shot with a potato would certainly help.

This NOS 16700 had many confused until better photos showed up. It turned out to be unpolished despite some early responses saying otherwise.

Your dad's watch looks good though.

To clarify more on the dial. The dial was changed in the newer model DJ, when upgraded to the solid link and hidden clasp and factory polished lugs among other things, the diamonds changed from the smaller square setting to the larger more rounded square settings.

We had it swapped at last service.

Try explaining that to dad.
Was a firm believer Rolex said every 5 years.
So every 5 years, out it went.
If I recall correctly, one of them was due to the watch stopping.
During the last service, we did the dial swap, which was 4 years ago.
