I like it but the price is too high in Oz - AUS$9000.

Why not ask the guys in the Omega Forum Section.

I like the watch when I saw the pics and my AD ordered one in for me a few months ago, But when I saw the watch I passed. It easy in the US to get one and most AD can order it.

It about $US5500 .... The watch is not as Nice as I thought when I saw it, too plain and it seem the white face dial is made of paper. It doesn't feel as well made and detail as a Rolex. For almost the price I get the GV.

I won't pay that price for a Omega, My advice is try it on before you decide.... you need to see it yourself.

somehow when it comes to the speedy, it's the 3570.50 that does it for me. the numerous variations and special editions leave me lukewarm at best. but it's your money and your wrist...

There are major reviews on this watch in the Omega Forum on this website.
I think you can get a lot of opinions there, and see some amazing photos too.
This thread is now being transferred to the Omega Forum.

Hi All,
I am new here BTW
I am considering a trade for an Alaska. Like the watch, but the extras are unlikely to be used. It is quite a departure from the usual Speedy Pros though.

Wow, that is a lot of money. I have the 3513.50 and like the speedmasters, but would not conceive of paying that kind of price.

i tired one on at the ad and loved it -
but, it was too expensive for a speedy, and the ad wouldn't budge on the price

The watch is beautiful. Not keen on the orange bezel though. But I looked at this before Christmas and its really, nice but with the white strap it would make it unwearable really and as its a collectors piece that means don't wear it if I was going to re-sell in the future.

In the end I couldn't warrant the money on something that was going to sit around, not being worn

But still a lovely watch!

x2 TR. its really nice.

I have said to the AD if he ever decides to knock one out very, very cheap or finds one somewhere to gimme a call!

Mainly said because he doesn't seem to be able to move this at all. lots of people looking but no one buying

I have three Speedy Pros and disregarding all the Alaska History fluff it is by far and away the one that smiles at me when on the wrist. I can't see me ever parting with it.

I got mine at a very generous discount even before the two subsequent UK price increases and I am aware that they are available for a lot less than RRP at the moment.

I reckon once the relatively few pieces have finally settled with owners such as I who would not part with them then the prices will hold firm and even creep up.

Omega sell 10,000 Speedy Pros a year, the same sort of figure as SS Daytonas. The "Limited" 6,000 run of Patch dialed Speedies hold reasonable value so why not the Alaska, a far more interesting dial and rarer piece altogether.

My AD has nine APs in stock and is willing to deal. It's tempting for sure.

Love my alaska

I also wear the white dial SS Daytona, I can tell you that no one but WIS notice the Daytona BUT many many comment on the Alaska.

Some comparison photos:

MSRP = $5600 USD BUT you can get a discount if you ask for it

As for wearing a collectable, I keep everything but the watch itself virgin, bought a black crocodile strap and I can buff out the watch if I should happen to scratch it.

hey John, how often do you need to wind up the alaska? been admiring it for a while but as i have mentioned in other posts, i just cant seem to pull the trigger on a manual wind watch especially since i can get a speedmaster in automatic.

If I'm wearing the Alaska for a few days straight I just wind in the morning when I get up, usually I only wind once when it comes out of the safe because I rotate my stable often

The Omega Alaska winds different than Rolex, on Rolex you can barely tell when fully wound because of the clutch mechanism; the Omega certainly lets you know you've reached full wind... you will stop because it feels like you could break something.

Also there is no crown lock so you don't extend to wind, my fingers feel fat when winding this watch only.

Still, I love the Omega Alaska

Yes, automatic Speedmasters are available but all Speedmaster Professionals are manual wind. There is a difference. Check them out when you are in Vegas.

As for winding, my daily routine is to take the "watch of the day" out of the case each morning, strap it on, and then take about 10 seconds to wind my Speedy Pro. Even if it were to wind completely down, 20 seconds will top it off again. No big deal.
