Wife/ daughter drop Sub on Concrete

So it finally happened. My Rolex was dropped due to an ounce on negligence.

It hurts worse when it’s not scratches from normal wear.

For you all that have had small chips, nice, scrapes... I know it hurts a lot at first, do you eventually get used to it or do I need to plan on seeing if I can get it bugged out?

ouchhhhh! just curious, why did your wife and daughter have your Sub? it doesn't look that bad for a drop on concrete through, certainly could have been worse.

just think about how much you love your ladies when you look at it. Part of the family let it go if the watch is telling time accurately.

oh, man. that's a bummer. and a terrible spot to be injured. Not sure what I would do. I would probably let it go and hope to get used to it.

If you keep the watch, maybe one day it will remind you of them if they aren't with you. I wouldn't sweat it.

If the time is good, let it go and continue wearing it. If it really bugs the hell out of you then get it repaired. End of the day, its just a watch that you really love wearing!

I have unfortunately done that on a brand spanking new Navitimer!!! Never got it fixed nor do I plan to.

Glad that was all it was. Most times a drop like that results in a broken crystal.

It sounds like you’re not sure which one dropped it - your wife or your daughter.

There is the poem “Ode to a Grecian Urn” which deals with the impermanence of this life. I think it’s an allegory to the ephemeral and fleeting nature of beauty.

Well, your watch can be refinished at considerable expense. But it will never be perfect again. You will know that your wife or daughter took something from you which was perfect and caused it to lose its perfection.

You should instantly get a new Submariner. You should also instantly ghost your wife and daughter. Leave now, friend. They don’t care about you or how seriously they have taken that which was perfect and caused a gaping hole in your existence. If your daughter is a minor, the judge will not order child support once you explain how you have been harmed. I feel your pain as my wife once said “that’s nice” when I showed her my 216570 for the first time. “Nice” is not how you describe one of the few things in this lifetime which we know is one of the rare embodiments of perfection. My counselor advised that I should wait until child support is no longer an issue before filing the inevitable divorce for emotional abandonment.

Or you can just send it to Rolex with the understanding “sh%t happens” which might be how some deal with such an unforgivable affront.

May you never again face such an affront. My prayers are with you, good sir.

Wife/ daughter drop Sub on Concrete

Leave it alone for 6 months and see if it leaves your mind. Sure as anything.... if you get it laser welded and fixed, another incident will occur. I choose not to let things like that bother me until it's time to get it serviced. In fact, I just had my white gold Sub serviced and I did not get it polished. Just gonna let the scuffs ride a while.

Hmm, he gave it to the wife who gave it to the daughter who dropped it?
He let wife and daughter play catch with it and it got dropped in the process?

Really need to know.

On topic of the watch, that's a pretty soft hit, though unfortunate location. If it works all the same, I'd probably try and get used to it.

Or maybe he had been drinking heavily, handed over keys/wallet/Rolex to wife or daughter and can’t remember which one.

But then one has to ask, if he has a son, how is he free and clear from the debacle?

I'd keep it that way. I would place high sentimental value on something like that.

At least they didn't burn down your she-shed.

Were they playing catch with your watch?

Was it carelessly tossed in the jewelry drawer?

TRF needs answers to vague titles.

Actually, we don't. Enjoy your watch and whatever story is attached to it.

I'd suggest a complete rearrangement of your priorities. This is NOTHING from a drop on concrete. Think about how strong the watch is or how lucky you are the crystal didn't shatter. More importantly, you could embrace this tiny knick as a remembrance of loved ones. Every time your finger touches that lug, you'll feel it. Decide now to have it remind you of the love and good feelings you have toward your family. It will be a secret that no one else knows about. You could be at the office or golfing or shopping - you feel that little bump and suddenly have good feelings. What an amazing opportunity. It's totally up to you.

We get carried away on this forum with the pristine nature of our watches, but life happens. I had a child knock over an $8,000 guitar once. Before I reacted (beyond the initial gasp), I had to choose right then and there what was more important - people or things. It is no more complicated than that. Perhaps hard, but not complicated.

Take this as an opportunity to make a slight change in your outlook, and I guarantee you will be happier. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I wish you the best of luck, OP.

If you want it fixed - there is only one place I would send it to... they do incredible laser welding repairs etc.

That doesn't look too bad at all considering it hit concrete. Assuming it's mechanically sound you're rather fortunate.

If it really bugs you, pick up a $10 package of Cape Cod polishing cloths. Apply liberally and buff with Microfibre cloth. You cannot, I REPEAT, you cannot harm the watch with this product! If you're worried, tape off the areas you won't be working on.

Whatever the result, I guarantee it will look better and less noticeable. With some good 'ol' fashioned elbow grease, you might polish it out completely! Make sure to wash with soap and water after polishing.

Good luck and please let us know how you make out.
Mark
