Last Year for Tritium Dial Explorer 1
I’m looking at a 14270 Explorer 1. The seller is offering it as a 1998 with box and papers.
I’ve seen some models presented as older with Swiss only dials. What was the last year for tritium dial Explorer 1s? Thanks in advance. |

The switch to Luminova for all models took place in 1998/99..
Of course, Rolex didn't do anything by calendar year, so there is plenty of carryover during 97/98/99. Some models also got Tritium dials with Luminova paint during that time, just to use up the stock.

Thank you. I saw a few pieces listed as 97 with Swiss only dials - maybe they were service dials.

I think the U serial from year 1998-99 likely the last batch of tritium dial. A serial should fitted with Swiss only luminova dial

I'm going to buy either a 14270 or the 114270, the lume or lack of is important to me " old eyes " is there a life span of the Luminova ? I really like a 2002 I found, so after 18 years what should I expect as far as lume ?
Thanks Chris |

I’ve seen this post on the Rolex Forum on TRF before. I thought you received the answer weeks ago
