Background on Omega Seamaster 60?

I'm a Rolex fan generally, and a very happy owner of a Pepsi GMT 1675, but lately have wanted to buy something that might be a little better suited for running around, even if still vintage, which is what I prefer. I've always liked Omegas, and was looking at a vintage Seamaster 300 and then stumbled across the Seamaster 60. I like the look a lot, especially the red dial, but I can't find any information on it in terms of why Omega decided to issue this version or why it was discontinued. I've read a lot of Omega history the past few days but haven't seen anything specific to this apart from info on the caliber & other technical things.

Any information greatly appreciated!
