Icon20 Clasp Calamity

Members, 1st post: advice please

Fell off a ladder. Hit hard and watch exploded off my wrist. Got lucky and only busted my clasp, the steel prongs have opened right up (see photo)

watch: Oyster Perpetual Datejust bought new in 1989.
I'm in Ottawa, Canada.

Is it just me or do others get quivering butt cheeks at the thought of getting their watch repaired? A service is $500 (done a few months ago).
2009 Rolex Toronto insisted I needed a refurbished bracelet for $1800.

Bright side: bought for $4300, spent $3200 upkeep in 30 years, apparently more than doubled in value to 10K for insurance purposes! Lucky me.

Laughing at myself for being hesitant about who to bring this to but I need a clasp and it doesn't look repairable.

Please advise me with your experience and wisdom with my thanks. How much should I be paying roughly and what should I watch out for?

Wally

Hi, no picture. I’m sorry about the fall I’m glad you’re okay!

I would get an opinion for a reputable watchmaker in your area here is a link for certified watchmakers:

There are also results for Canadian locations

Good luck.

I am glad that you are okay! Ladder falls can end badly. You could try sourcing just the clasp in the used market because Rolex themselves will only sell you a full bracelet. They don’t come up very often though.

Any member can upload photos, as long as they meet the size requirements of the type image being uploaded. 10 posts are needed to upload url's

As to repairs of bracelets, it's shipping to the States, but Rolliworks in California specializes in rebuilds and repairs of Rolex bracelets. Should be a lot cheaper than a new one.

I'm happy you are fine. Falling from a ladder can really be disastrous.

Had a big watch accident about 2 weeks after a service.
Iirc, the repair bill was about 3x the service cost with no apparent damage to the movement itself as far as I know.
Regardless it remained one of my all time favourite watches and a rock solid performer
It happens

I'm glad you're ok! Go through RSC, but my rough estimate is somewhere between 750 to 1000

I'm glad you're ok!! I would go through RSC, and a rough estimate would be it costs five hundred to a thousand

Didn't a moderator just say that he can't post URLs yet?
