Can’t beat a 36mm DJ, even on a 7.5”, round wrist.

Thanks. I love it. Debated for years on getting it. Glad I finally did.

It goes without saying that we can wear what we want and what we like is what we like. I think that watches, much like clothing and other items need to be proportionate to the size of the wearer. If you have a smaller wrist it opens the world up to you for some smaller watches that will look proportionate to your overall size. I have a larger wrist at 7.5-7.75 inches depending on the weather and find my floor to be around 40 mm for both comfort and appearance. Personal choice on that but it works for me. Big, small or in between wrist size wear what you like. But it does not mean that it may not appear too large or small to others, but in the end they are not wearing it. Enjoy.

36mm datejust is perfect, especially the latest ref from 2019. Jubilee, fluted with blue dial is how I'll have mine. One of the best looking watches in the catalog IMO. I am strongly considering one.

I have 6,5 inch wrist size ... although I can wear anything from 44 mm and below yet I prefer 36mm size any day.

My wrist is about 6.5 inches and 35mm to 38mm is the range I like, although lug to lug measurement is actually more important.

In general I think people often wear watches that look too big. Both on forums and in real life I see tons of people and I think "watch is way too big". Conversely, I dont think Ive ever seen someone and thought "that watch is too small"

Anthony Bourdain rocked a 34mm Oyster Date, and he was no shrinking violet!

It looks fantastic on him in photos.

These days it seems if you are wearing a 34mm or under watch, even if it's vintage, it's scoffed at by some people for being too small. I think it's ridiculous.

Screw them. Wear what you want. I will admit that some of this conjecture and BS has affected me though. I always wanted a Black Dialed Air King Precision, but I'm bigger now with a 7+ inch wrist, and I've been wearing larger watches for so long that I'm not sure if I would be happy with it.

Regardless, if you like it, who the f**K cares what someone else thinks. Buy it for YOU, not for someone else.

Agree

The most absurd reason to not wear a smaller watch is fear of not looking “manly”. If you go into the Letterman’s lounge at Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, you will see nearly 80 year old me, huge and grizzled, wearing 32mm Cotton Bowl Omegas from National Championship football squads. Those smaller watches on those huge leathery forearms somehow look plenty manly.

Same with the old 31mm stainless steel army Hamiltons on veterans. It’s almost like being manly is what makes you look manly.

I agree that being manly is what makes you look manly.

Not a huge watch, or a huge lifted truck

IMHO, a fine watch should never be too large and overstated...it makes them look like cheap baubles and the wearer desperate for attention.

Some fine watches are meant to be large. A diver, for example. Overstated is a matter of taste (usually bad).

I think a 36 mm DJ or a 39 mm OP may work great for you. I would not go less than 36 unless you have to. 34 mm is really small for a man's watch regardless of wrist size IMO.

Good one! OP, as small watches are, as you say, growing (on you), you're all set anyway.

Cheers

Smaller watches are great.

Those 45mm and UP monstrosities? . . . . . "arm-clocks".

Agree! I think whisky has a similar principle- part of being a man is knowing what you like to drink, not what you are supposed to like to drink.

Need to edit- “80 year old men” is what is should say, not “80 year old me” (damned iPhone!).

A watch should be whatever the person likes. Just like I would never criticize someone for wearing a smaller watch, I would never criticize them for wanting something bigger.
