Tropical 1601 Arrived

I finally got my new toy from a close friend who i kept bugging to sell me this beautiful watch. Its a 1964 Rolex 1601 with white gold bezel and a gilt gloss dial that has turned tropical. He got the watch from another vintage Rolex collector, Stefano Mazzariol. The watch looks stunning under the sun. Another great addition to my collection.

Last pic is killer. That strap compliments it very well.
Can I borrow it?
Watch is far more better than that subpar Ferrari in the background.

Probably the most interesting Datejust I’ve ever seen. Congratulations! I’m looking for a sunny window to leave mine in for 20 years.

Thanks for the compliment. I was informed that the black gloss gilt dial for the 1601 only came out in 64-65. Is the assumption correct?

The scud is my favorite. Very raw and loud.

Congrats! Not sure I've ever seen a vintage black Rolex dial go quite that tropical before, and so evenly and intensely.

What's the theory on how that happened?

That’s the right word to describe the watch. Intense.

Thanks for sharing. It is extraordinary. Based on your incoming threads, OP, you must have one of the most insane vintage Rolex collections around. Would love to see a group photo.
