vintage Tudor

I recently found an old Tudor at an estate sale. It is pretty rough and didn't have a strap. It functions, but the spring needs repaired, as the crown won't lock. My question is about the watch itself: it is an Oyster Prince and has numbers at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. Nowhere online have I seen a picture of this particular model. If someone could shed some light, it would be appreciated.

If you click on the paperclip symbol you should be able to attach the picture to a reply:

If you're using Windows 10 navigate to the folder that contains the photo:

1. Right click the photo.
2. Hold the mouse pointer over "Open with".
3. Select Photos.
4. Right click the picture once it has opened in the 'Photos' software and select Resize
5. Select "Define custom dimensions" and change the width and/or height to 1250 or lower.
6. Select "Save resized copy".

A bit of a rigmarole however you should then be able to attach the resized photograph.

Do you have any photographs of the case back? If not are there two sets of numbers, a 4 digit and a 5 (or 6) digit?

Tudor Small Rose dial, has to be pre 1970. Looks to be 1950's to me.
Dial says "Oyster Prince" and "rotor self winding", so it should have an oyster case and an automatic movement if the dial was not redone.
Watch appears to be original to me, but cannot tell if the dial is redone or if the watch is recased given the photo quality.

Should have a 4 digit reference number on it, most likely between the lugs. That would help you find other watches that are the same.

Looks like a smaller watch to me.

Not much else to tell with that photo.

Yep, made ~1952‐54 in the first run of the Oyster Prince line. Your dial is pretty unique. Hands look right. Should have a cal. 390 movement inside. Value in that condition ~$500. Since you said the crown won't lock, it probably needs a new case tube and crown. The correct Oyster Patent crown and tube are quite scarce.

What else do you want to know?

Just Google "Tudor Prince 7809" and you should find several similar watches.

yeah, but I haven't seen any with the 2, 4, 6,8,10, 12 number pattern. Everything I have seen is either no numerals or the normal 12, 3, 6, 9

Small variations can make a big $ difference on desirable models, like Subs, Daytonas, Explorer's and GMT's.

On models like the Tudor Prince, or Rolex OP, they sold a lot of different dial variations simultaneously, unlike the sports model.
There are not to many variations that will bring a premium. And the few you might get a premium on are not as dramatic as the sports models. (Star hour markers, waffle dials are the only ones that come to my mind off hand.)
