Which of these 3 gets your nod?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be purchasing my first Omega shortly. The 3 left in contention are:

1) Seamaster 300 (black bezel and dial-model #2254.50-discontinued)
2) Seamaster 300 titanium (black dial-model #2231.50)
3) 42mm Planet Ocean (Black dial and bezel-model #2201.50)

This watch will be my daily wearer. Personally, i like all 3 of the models, but thought i would ask for opinions from those with more experience and knowledge as to your recommendations regarding the pros and cons of each of these.

Additionally, what type (% wise) discount should i be looking for off list on these models, and, do any of you have any AD's that you would strongly recommend and will ship out of state? Please feel free to send me a PM if you don't feel comfortable posting their contact info on here.

Personally, I prefer SS to TI. SS is easier to maintain and has a heftier feel.

I love the PO but the case is too thick for me to wear comfortably. It will not slip easily under a shirt cuff. But if I could wear one, I would have one.

A friend surprised me with the black SMP (2254.50) for Christmas a year ago and IMO, it is the perfect diver. It is a classic design with a solid movement and a go-anywhere, do-anything, wear-with-anything watch. Of the three you mention, ithe 2254.50 is about as perfect a daily wearer as one will find and for about a third the cost of a Sub. Now that it has been discontinued, new ones will not be around much longer.

Check for a PM with an AD recommendation.

My preference would be in the exact order you listed them. Get a 2254.50 while you still can. There's still time to pick up POs.

the po is a bit on the chunky side for my tastes. titanium looks dull and has the heft of aluminum. so you know what my choice would be.

X2. My only addition would be that I would first try to find a BNIB or LNIB example via a private seller. I love Omega, but they depreciate sssooooo much right away it's kind of painful to buy from an AD (even w/ the inevitable discount you're sure to get). You can save probably 30-50% if you find the right example via a private seller. Good luck.

I would recommend the 2254.50 for a daily wearer. I bought mine new from an AD about 4 or 5 months ago. They can still be had new if you get lucky. I see them come up for sale alot, but I prefer to buy my watches new. Good Luck!

I've been thinking about wearing a PO after looking at one. I love the styling and the slightly retro look. That one would definitely be my choice.

Beautiful watch, but another thing to keep in mind w/ the PO is the double AR coating. I know from experience (prior PO Chrono owner) that the outer coating CAN get scratched. The crystal is bulletproof...but not that thin layer of film. Once you scratch it your watch crystal appears to be flawed. Plus, some do not like the slight blue hue that is given off by the coating. Personally, I didn't mind the hue and thought it looked kind of cool...but I couldn't get over that film scratching. If I would have kept the watch for a long time, I would have probably paid for a professional to remove the outer coating. Cheers.

I'd love a PO, it's a great look, but it's just too big.

2254.50 would be the answer, but I'm a vintage kind of guy.

....the 2254 gets a lot of love but i think the PO is a better watch. i like the applied numerals, the revolutionary movement, more solid feeling bracelet. my PO is more accurate and has a longer power reserve.

finally, i think the PO looks better. the pronounced chapter ring b/w the bezel numbers and face, the matte black dial, and domed crystal ( 2254 has it but it's not as pronounced) make it more of a handsome and substantial watch.

2254 is a very fine watch. but the PO is better, especially if you like a heftier piece.

The jury is in and believe i'm going to go with the PO. After reading your posts and giving some thought, i eliminated the titanium Seamaster altogether as a contender. Had the chance yesterday to stop in an AD and look at the PO and Seamaster (not 2254.50) next to one another and compare. Definately two very different pieces although both are beautiful on their own merits. The PO seems to be the one that sings to me the most, i really like the substantial feel and heft. It's been a tough decision, but do believe i'll be attempting to pick up a PO shortly. Many thanks to all and will post some pictures when i pick up the new piece (hopefully shortly).

make sure you post the pics! you made the right decision, i think. they're both great watches, but i think the PO is a step up. personally, it's my favorite watch ( i have a sub no date which i really like alot but my PO makes me smile the most).

I've been trying to add a P.O. to my rotation
but I disagree it's a better watch than the 2254.... IMHO..
it's a different watch...

Exactly...completely agree. Too often I think we use the word 'better' when we should be saying, 'better for me'.

+1 for PO. Although 2254 is very nice. The PO represents the change in Omega, and is one of their greatest model to date.

I actually have the Bond (similar to 2254) which I bought around a month ago, and I thought I would be happy, but now I'm looking at the PO..
