There's no difference between the 04 (F serial number) vs an 06 (Z serial number). Mine is an 04 F and it's working just fine

Why doesn't he just go out and buy himself one from an AD?

As soon as you make the transaction he ceases to be a proper friend.
He becomes a sort of friend. The sort of friend that you would make $200 dollars profit off. Point him in the direction of the AD. Let him have the new Sub with the papers. Do that and you are a REAL friend.

I suppose the thing to consider is going from a watch with no warrenty to one with--just in case.

You might remind him that his new "Z" Sub/Date will drop to about the cost of your watch as soon as he pays for it and walks out of the store. Then it is just a per-owned "Z" serial # 16610 which would sell for about what you can get for yours. JMHO =) maverick
