The price trend of the 5167 is continue to rise on the secondary market since the 5711 is discontinued.....

5167 is the new 5711 in the current market.....

My AD say the 5167 is now #1 in demand, like the 5711 in the past... since there no more 5711 to sell.....

Well if the 5711 is selling around $100,000 on the secondary market..... And the secondary market for the 5167 is around $50k......

The Aquanaut is still relative a bargain for around $50k...

I wouldn't be surprised if the 5167 goes up to $60k.....

In fact I sold my 5711 (never liked the size and especially the clasp) and bought a 5167 - which I love.

Thanks for your honesty....

Now, this is where things get interesting...

Not to long ago I ask friends or members here who own both Aquanaut and Nautilus.....

Which one they prefer to wear.....??

Most members here had admitting they wear the Aquanaut more than the Nautilus....

The supply also tightens.

I have a saved search on Chrono24 with the following filters:
Ref: 5167/A, 5167/1A-001, 5167A, 5167A-001
Location: EU
Availability: Now
Scope of delivery: Original box and papers
Case material: Steel

Before the 5711 were discontinued there were around 60-65 available.
Now it is around 30-35, with two of them being Tiffany dials.

Absolutely.
Love my 5711, but my 5167 gets far more wrist time. I wear shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops over 300 days a year. The Aquanaut just goes better with that attire, imo.

I genuinely cringed at what I paid for my 5167, but I wanted it in my collection because it’s honestly a great watch for work and play. And, I love the way it fits and the comfort of rubber. I personally like it more than the Nautilus, but I completely respect the fact that most don’t feel the same way I do.

I tried for a few months to see if there was any legitimate chance of getting one from an AD, and it became clear to me that it wasn’t happening. So, I did the math. Buy 2 things I didn’t really want and take a huge hit to MAYBE get a 5167A allocation? No thanks...Even if it comes back down to earth in the upper $20s to lower $30s I’ll still do better than playing the AD game. So far, so good...

Your lifestyle is like mine..^^^... & you are lucky to have both......

That why I pick the Aquanaut in the first place..... Because it fit my casual lifestyle plus it look sportier.....

Having said that.... I would love to add a Nautilus someday.....

If Patek is my only one watch... It got to be the Aquanaut....

I thought that too but says it’s from 2106 and OP said 2014. $52.5 seems high but then again they also have a 5711 at $110k! 😳

By my calculations, the grey market dealer pockets a margin less than 10% after any servicing or polishing and warranty.
Plus the grey, if reputable, is the one taking all of the risk. They are buying something that, to sell, they'll have to stake that reputation on. Sometimes, bringing it up to that standard will take more resources than anticipated. Plus the risk that one day they buy a fake (that can't be sold). Those risks need to be distributed across all of the good pieces that they do sell.

They know what their potential profit margins can be or they wouldn’t be in the business of taking the “risk” for the profit. There’s a reason they do this and it’s the profit in the transaction......which clearly outweighs the risk you mention. If someone is buying a 5167 for $35k and selling it for $52 or even $49 they are making enough to take on the potential risk. Not sure I buy that they are making 10%.

Yes. That's exactly my point: They know exactly what the risks are, and therefore calculate that into their (intended) spread. For every hundred watches they buy and sell, let's say ten require excessive maintenance and one is fake. They know these odds quite well and then determine the "intended" spread for each watch accordingly.
